So I've decided against doing the V8 swap for now for fuel economy reasons, so instead I will build up the 250 and I'd like to put a manual transmission in there too, preferably a 5 speed. Does the T5 work with a 250 I6? If so, does anyone have a recommended way to acquire a T5? Thanks!
A T5 should work because they bolt to 302's and I'm pretty sure the 250's and the 302's use the same bellhousing.
yea, I think your straight. I was looking into the same switch some. If I remember right, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, there are two different bellhousings for the T5 that would mount up to the I6. If I have time today I'll find some of the articles and threads. I don't wanna assume that I remember too much from them.
The T-5 will need the deep T-5 bellhousing because of the length of the input shaft or buy an adapter to go between the transmission and bellhousing. Using an adapter will let you keep factory clutch setup.
The 250 uses the same bellhousing as the 302. Since there is a bellhousing for the 302 it will work. The flywheel and clutch has to be for the six cylinder due to balance issues but the transmissions will be the same as the V-8.
This will get the transmission in the car but not the clutch linkage. The factory linkage will not work. Another $200+ will be spent to convert to cable linkage.
