When its cold, reverse works, good firm shift, warms up. no reverse. Fluid is clean, not burnt, all other gears are perfect. Is this a valve body problem? it has a 4.6L V8. Any advice? Thanks!
There are three things that can cause this: (at least) late roller bearing on late model replaced by the earlier flat washer; Too much play on the reverse drum seal rings allowing dislocation with the feed hole; Seal rings stuck in the stator grooves which is a common failure in 91 - 93 model years; I doubt that it is bending of the reverse servo cover due to high pressure because that problem is rarely intermittent or related to heat. Unfortunately all the fixes will require removal of the transmission.
How much does a total overhaul kit run for? I plan on keeping it for a long time, wanna fix it right. Its an old Police car. What was the first year for the 4.6? Thanks! Chad
I read it(1991) off of car craft....again they were wrong. But what do you expect. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/ccrp_0905_ford_mod_motors/index.html
Of course there may have been some 4.6's released early, but I do know the 302/351's were still there in 91. I think they were in the Lincoln Towncar in 91.
I looked it up on google and 92 was the first year for the Crown vic 4.6. and yes the 91 town car was the first to get the 4.6.
