I always felt the Maverick needed alittle help in the front to lose some of the Pinto mistique. That's not to say a bone stock/grabber isn't awesome in its own right (so don't hate me purists,) but rather a kind of upgrade..like the shelby's and yenko's of the day...ya know? alittle more of the "ummpfhh" factor as I call it. I dont think it would be that hard to do. In this chop I took out 1/2 inch from the hood line to raise the Mav trim. All thats left is to fab some kind of hoop/grill combo. Then add all your likes to individualize your ride.
Hot rodders in general are guys that shape the hobby. Doing alot without alot was the creedo..taking parts from other cars to make something unique. Which is why rat rods are popular right now. Dirt cheap to buy and you add what looks cool. Remember when you could thumb thru a paper and find a 70 mustang for about 3 grand cause everyone was wanting new Irocs? Now you can't touch a barely decent 66-73 mustang cause the guy who has it rusting outside just saw the Barrett-J last week and thinks he'll retire this year. See where I'm going here? Building a great car thats overlooked is the real "wow" factor. Our cars have this advantage in spades. Restomod is great way of showing what the Maverick could have delivered as well, had it not been overshadowed by another horse.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!

I dont know how that's possible since the maverick came before the Pinto.. It's the other way around.

from the pictures i like the idea, but it looks like a mustang too much.

Just look up Thacks car i think it is the second car you posted

I really hate to say it though, I would rather have my car mistaken for a pinto or a vega then a Mcmustang or one of the belly button Camaro's but that is personal preference. Mustangs and Camaro's are a dime a dozen right now you are saying you want to be different by making your car look like everyone elses?:hmmm:
If you really want a mustang sell your maverick and buy a mustang like this one http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=10404629&cat=103&lpid==

I didnt mean any disrespect here, I do understand about the pinto after the mav, and I dont want to make a mustang copy per say, but I mean come on...how many times is this car mistaken for something else? How good does a regular mustang compare to a shelby in the looks and power dept? Don't you like when peoples jaws drop when you say Maverick? I think this is what I'm leaning to for my build. Gonna call it project double-take. Give it some mustang flair but the essence of the Maverick remains..making you do a double take at the car show.
Just thought about some way to bring up the beefy level in the looks a bit and engine a bit. I guess the tone is a bit mustangish and not for everyone. But I thought it would give it a more muscular image. Besides...this would have to be taken on as a project with a big bumper car to individualize it. Not a grabber or nice stock 70-72. I wouldnt even think about that. And, how many other style lines cross over from one car to another, or even brand to brand for that matter.

here's some more... driving lights and such.

I think the 3rd pic in the above post looks more like a Pinto. It wouldn't be cost effective, but I've always thought a 69-70 Shelby'ish frt end would look good for a custom.....but personally I'm good with a stock Maverick frt end. I still say it is a beautiful little car but only when it is fixed up right.

Since the Maverick came first..how could it look like a Pinto?
It's the style of all cars of that period...

The 3rd pic is a member on the forums here his handle is Thack I think his name is Thomas Hackmans?:hide: But like I said apparently you are pretty much just going to be trying to copy his car. Here is a link to his profile
http://mmb.maverick.to/member.php?u=106 he has also had his wifes car featured in HotRod http://www.hotrod.com/roadtests/67119/index.html. Infact FastMav5 your signature picture is the insperation for the orange car (you know the one in the 2nd and 3rd pic)

Do what makes you happy. I've collected most of the parts I'll need to build my idea of a ratrod Maverick. It's going to be pretty out there, and I have no idea what people's reaction to it would be, but I don't care as long as I'm happy with it. Just need to find a deal on a tunnel ram to put on the built 460 I've got.

thanks Mark for the suggestion...I know about Tom's cars, and the render, which both were my source of inspiration. I've talked with him about how he came about his front treatment, and what he thought of my direction.
I want to do an off shoot of something different, not really to copy, but I agree. Both of the Hackmans Mavericks are well thought out and extremely nice builds.

Yup, just do it. If you screw it up, at least it isn't a $60,000 Cuda or something. It is JUST a maverick. A dime a dozen.

That is one good thing about these cars. It keeps me from being afraid to cut on it and drill holes, like I would be on a car with more value.
