please make me understand why ford would cut out the spots for rear deck speakers, even drill out the holes for the mounting screws......ON THE PASS SIDE ONLY! what kind of logic is that? then you know that there is no room for a drill between the back window and the deck. so,,, all6ft2in of me has to climb in there with the drill and so on. very colorful words. F-O-R-D!
I don't know how old you are, but I can explain. Back in the 60's and 70's, not many cars came with rear speakers, much less two of them. Stereo was pretty much non- existant in those days except on high end cars like Caddy's and Lincoln's. And FM and tape decks were rare, too. Most cars had a AM radio if they even had one, and it had a single speaker up front. On a lot of cars, rear speakers were an option, as was a "reverb" to give a stereo like sound, but not many people bought them. I doubt many Maverick buyers bought the upgraded AM/FM Stereo radios with four speakers even when offered, since they were considered economy cars back then. Most upgraded ones were probably ordered by dealers that way. Folks looked at the highly optioned ones on the showroom floor, then ordered a stripped one for less bucks....
