Back Up Lights in rear valance

    Hi Again Tody:
I remember you asked if I had a template for the back up lights earlier and I was rummaging through some patterns yesterday and found a template for installing the 68 Mustang back up lights on the rear valance of a Comet or Maverick. If you're still contemplating this upgrade then I'd be glad to mail you a copy of the template (actual size) showing the cutout and the holes locations. I understand you can obtain AMBER lenses for these lights also if you were considering them to be used as turn signals in Europe. Let me know . I wish you success :) Chip

Hi Chip, thanks for the reply. I had a closer look at my valance today. I might run into a problem as far as the depth of the backup housings are concerned. From what I measured, they will hit the rear frame. I'm not sure whether I want to cut it up - I'll let you know (y)

i like them further apart also, that is the position they were in on the 68 cougar. I also think they would match the car better if they were not the round ones, but i think the camaro ones would be a little too big. picky i guess

    Back up lights

    Hi Tody:
Just a thought. I realize you might not want to cut up your frame, but consider that the amount of materials that must be removed for a proper fit would be small and the valance when reinstalled would conceal the notches. I did this on two of my cars . There is plenty of material at this point where the removal of a small amount of metal wouldn't be detrimental to the structural integrity of the frame. At any rate , I hope you figure out a way to illuminate the area behind your car when backing up at night. There are "numerous" ways to accomplish this as I'm sure you realize . I just think the Mustang setup looks more "factory" since thats what the did on the early Mustangs . I wish you success.:HandshakeChip

I don't care for them. Even when installed I don't think they are very functional because they are so small. Didn't seem to put out much light on the Mustangs I have owned. I'll just keep mine clean and simple.
