How do I remove the wiper arms? Can't see a set screw under there or a way to get to one because of the tension spring.

(See the picture added below) I got it off and thought this might prove useful to others.

You have to bend the clip under the arm where it attaches to the gear. Or atleast thats how i remember doing it.

    edit: tab not clip

There is no clip to bend.

It takes a special tool, but one can do it with a screwdriver as well. One needs to take the tension off the opposite or back side of the wiper arm. The tool removes the tension. A screwdriver can be use to just pry off the wiper arm. If you want to not nick the paint on your car, use a paint stirring stick to protect your paint.

Kind of hard to explain....but i tried. :D

I'm seeing a small tab under there that has a lip pointing toward the outside. From what's been suggested, I'm thinking that by pushing on that tab it disengages a tensioning collar or ring (kind of like the speedo cable release on the back of the instrument cluster)--am I on the right track?

yep. while that tab is released (outward), you need to pull the arm straight off. it is splined, so it is a snug fit. just wiggle and pull evenly.
