Fun with tape day Well got the hood striped today with "special graphics" going to leave as a surprise until I post pics tomorrow. Also got very ambitious while I had the tape and paint out and let me just go on the record saying if you think Grabber side decals are a pain to install try taping and painting them on the car. Took me about 3 hours to layout. I tried to get them to scale and factory alignment best as I could. When your knocking on 50 years young the ole eyeballs lose calibration and being jacked up on Dunkin Donuts coffee don't help much either. This weekend I'm blacking out rear panel, front bumper filler panel, hoodscoop and that should just about do for the body. I'm basically getting it looking a little better before I start all the performance mod'slater this summer. I will most likely lose the whole stock paint scheme before car is done anyway. I would like a darker Jade Green Metallic when all said and done. Pics this weekend and I'm curious to hear remarks on my homegrown Grabber stripes very rarely I'm satisfied when painting, something always seems to screw up. Today was NOT one of those days. They look sweet !
Updates 05/09/2010 Sorry for shabby pics, weather was poor today but managed to get car outside for few minutes. Hood graphics are influenced by 1971 Torino GT Cobrajet. I really liked how they looked in my photoshop mockup so that's what I went with. OK now for the side stripes, basically like the grabber style but painted on with same sem trim black paint, I plan to do some custom airbrushing where the "Grabber" location on front fender is. I think I got them pretty close, I eyeballed every dimension. Hoodscoop is getting painted this week, restoring lights and grill on that, wish I could have bolted that this weekend but didn't happen. Well that's all folks... more to follow
Really liking it .... "Factory Flavor" without feeling the need to be 100% resto ... my philosophy to a tee.
Ah yes Captain you see where I'm going with the build. The car gods handed me a clean plain jane car with a 90% mint original paint. I just can't see doing a complete paint/ resto at this point, green is not on the top of my list of colors but working with what I got. Trying to get that oldschool factory look if possible. and thanx for comments people, helps on motivating for the next set of mod's. I never really document my car builds to good so this is a great place to do just that. Now I got to go get that hood scoop done Dfitzman
Updated Pics Got the hoodscoop on yesterday, directionals wired nicely and also put a closed cell blockoff foam inside until I drop in the 302 and need it to be functional. I like the looks with the hood blackout stripes...
You might have been inspired by the Torino hood stripes but those hood stripes are basically the 1970 Grabber hood stripes just a little bit wider. It all Looks totally Awesome BTW
Got the new Repop wing installed This week's special upgrade makes me happy. I was a little worried ordering this before seeing in person on a car but wow am I glad I did ($144 bucks to the door !). As you may know any condition oem 69-70 wings are expensive not to mention usually in bugly shape. This wing is abs with I believe a foam core and a matt texture that close to fords. I was impressed with pedestals and inserts that were molded in. I did replace all zinc hardware with stainless steel which is standard practice for me I hate rust. Wing got centered and installed with 3" reveal from back edge of deck lid and pedestals. This left the trailing edge of wing 1" back from deck lid edge. I thought that looked best. Now I have to black out tail light panel and pinstripe around the extensions and bottom lip. that's next I guess then it's time to move on to suspension, motor and 9". I already have a versailles rear, 302 block and front 5 lug spindles. Oh and I just passed the 5k mark on my 10k budget build, gonna be close I really like this angle... well that's all folks...
