Low on cash so doing some cheap upgrades to the car to keep me sane and happy. Wanting to dye the vinyl door panels black from current blue and need some suggestions. People suggested SEM, was wondering if you had any specific part numbers. Seems like on the board everyone is in agreement that the stains are better than the sprays. The rear seat is still cloth, gonna paint it black until i can recover with black vinyl. what's a good product to paint that black?
If you'd rather trade your blue door panels for original early black ones let me know as I have a set of black ones in near perfect shape but a blue interior on my project.
i don't mind trading but mine are not in great condition. the wood panel has some cracks and there is a few small blemishes. don't think it would be worth it especially with shipping.
I changed the color on mine, including the woodgrain part, to two-tone gray. Sprayed them 6 years ago and they still look great! I used Dupont vinyl spray. I mixed it myself on our mixing machine. It's made up with standard automotive tints with a vinyl additive instead of solvents. Oh...and this pic was taken after Hurricane Katrina put 4 ft of water in my car. The panels were dyed before Katrina and I only had to wipe them down.
I have used Eastwoods vinyl paint on hard plastic and it came out great, its a 3 part process. Im also looking into SEM paints, they have more colors. My buddy recently used this (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ca...k+vinyl+and+fabric+paint&brandName=Rust-Oleum) on his 1974 BMW fabric seats. I have not seen them, but I can let you know how they came out.
I think I'm gonna try that stuff for the headliner and the door panels and see how it turns out. I'll tackle the rear seat last.
I just repainted the vinyl top on my mav today. It was a dark green and I changed it to black. I used SEM paint and it looks great. Easy to do. Just scrubed it clean, dried w ell, Masked most of the car and sprayed. I got 2 coats out of 1 can. I used the semi-gloss witch matches the graphics I painted on the hood and the grill and front facia between the bumper and grill. I wish I had a picture to show but don't yet.
