going to make a cowl hood this weekend

now that my car is driving and does very well now. have the original hood that the front lip is rusted and have a parts hood that has a hole in the center for my aircleaner which sticks out just a hair. so decided to cut out from the original and make a cowl hood only going to make it to be an inch high or so but follow the stock lines that rise up ill post pics when i get it along

 

nice, before I decided to go with a scoop I pondered on same idea and thought it would be subtle but worth it. basically go north with the power bulge on hood right?

Curious how this looks and how you do, keep us posted.

I also had the same idea, but i sold my welder so no fab work for me...

I did the "poor man's cowl"...



It breaks the lines of the car just enough that I sorta liked it and kept it. I always felt the front half of the car was too thin (top to bottom) and this kinda gives it a little transition from thin up front to thicker out back. (Mine's the yellow one, not the orange one )

 

yah i am thinking of making a cowl hood like this one but not on a grabber hood

 

You should be able to just buy the fiberglass cowl, cut a hole in your hood, and mount that scoop on there and be done.

How are you doing yours? Shaping from scratch?

well here is the first day of work. added pics of the hood that i started with and what it looks like right now after i cut out the whole center part of another hood and overlapped it to match the lines up then formed the rear to give me a 2in cowl i think it looks good just have to do the body work on it but all the welding is done

 

I like it , its kinda Cobra-R ish.

thanks guys yea my dad says it almost looks like a early camaro factory cowl hood but i havent looked it up to see for myself its not huge so it doesnt jump right out at you

thanks thats what i was going for something that you have to take a second look wondering if it was stock or not. kind of like my cowl i cut out the vents and welded it up for a flat clean look.
