    HVAC Unit Ready

The heater/AC box is ready to go back in. Everything has been replaced, renewed or checked out. Someone had it out before and broke the top half in a few places -- got a replacement from Craig Selvey. New heater core and blower motor. The first blower motor from Rock Auto wouldn't turn but they were good about replacing it. Evaporator was tested and cleaned by Classic Auto Air. All the vacuum motors and doors are working properly. One motor wasn't getting a full pull but a couple of nuts between the motor and its mount positioned it for a full pull. Classic Auto Air says they have new ones for $60.

Need to find some foam insulation to stuff in around where the heater tubes exit the box. The smaller grommet was not reuseable. Think I'll also put some caulk around the seam between the two halves of the box.

I'll invite a buddy to help put it back in. Hope I never have to take it out again!!

    Heater Box

Thanks for the pic's on the heater box. I can see what it looks like n ow.
Was it a two man job removing the box? The pic's of ur under hood setup was useful to me also. I will be using a V-Belt setup like ur's and most of the pic's I see here are using serpentine. I may tackle the box nx week, the wx suppose to be mild so hopefully that will give me inspiration to get going. I will clean and paint my compressor brackets this weekend. Thanks agn for the post. You should get a new cowl seal (the big round gasket), Mustang ones work.

I thought about that but the old one doesn't appear to be compressed very much. A little out of shape but not compressed much. Maybe I'll make a couple of calls tomorrow and see if one is available locally. Need a couple of other things anyway.

CarQuest has a warehouse and retail store on the same campus here so if they sell a part its usually in stock. Maybe they'll have the grommet for the heater tubes exit from the box. I'm missing that one.

No, I took it out by myself. I'm thinking I need some help to guide it into place and put some nuts on the studs that extend into the engine compartment. Once its hung on the firewall I don't think I'll need help.

I'm glad my front seat is out. I wouldn't want to try to remove or install that unit with the seat in.

To answer your question, try http://www.classicautoair.com/ They do OEM upgrades in Tampa and street rod/classics add-ons in Texas. They didn't list an upgrade kit for OEM Maverick upgrades but put together the major parts I needed. Expect they'd do the same for a Maverick add-on system.

But, I expect you'd do better to find someone here that wants to delete their AC and exchange parts. Think I remember someone recently offering all the parts necessary to install factory AC.

    Lil Help Please

After I got the heater/ac box all put together, I remembered the switch that (hopefully) prevents the evaporator from icing up. So, went looking for the sw and took the box apart again this morning.

But, that switch is not going in the way I remember it. I think the copper tube was laying on the evaporator when I took it apart a year ago. Now, the only way I can see to install that sw is to push the copper tube THRU the fins in the evaporator. Can that be right? Thanks for any help.

I think that missing bolt on your compressor mount is usually one long bolt that goes through both mounting tabs. Then there's only one to mess with when you need to adjust belt tension.

It can be long or short. The tensioner is that pulley to the left.

Yep, tensioner was right there in front of me. I'd go with one bolt----one less chance of busting a knuckle.

No long bolt with the kit but I did have an extra short one.

Didn't get any response on the placement of the sw to cut off the compressor to prevent icing. I pushed it thru between the fins. Not the way I remember it but couldn't see any other way to do it.

When I removed the heater/ac box, I carefully labelled the vacuum lines with masking tape so I'd know where to put them. Unfortunately, most of the labels got covered up with overspray and they're not readable. But, the Ford repair manual has a great picture showing where all the vacuum lines go.

Looked for a long time for the wire for the compressor clutch. It was bundled with the vacuum lines rather than in the underhood wiring harness. Think I now have the vacuum lines and wiring connections figured out.
