my knowledge of transmissions is very limited, so this might be a simple question but i still need the answer. i put my car together and took it for its first run! motor runs great and the exhaust sounds good. i put the car in gear and stepped on the gas. the transmission goes into gear but it slips. it feels like it goes only half way into gear. i ran the car around the house and put it into the garage.
    here is what i know
c4 rebuilt with a shift kit (transmission shop said it was a "blue" kit)
    b&m mega shift shifter
has a BAD leak from the cooling line fittings (not tight enough), (i hope this has something to do with it slipping)
lots of type f in it

    what is your guess?
    what makes the transmission slip:(

we had talked about the converter not being seated correctly...

could it be the pump is gone?

well, i don't think so because i never actually bolted it in all the way with the converter problems, just finger tight.

second, i don't think a pump would cause it to slip like that ........ i don't think so any way. my understanding is that the transmission will burn up with out a pump but it only drove for aprox. 600 feet. so i don't imagine that is the issue.

    am i wrong?

can't you get slipping when you have too much fluid in the tranny? do you know if you topped it off correctly?

well, you sure were right. i pulled 6 liters out of it (it reads as correct now) and it started to smarten right up. it now shifts well but i wonder if it still slipps a littole off the start. could this be my torque converter? it is a 2400 stall and i dont actually know how that should feel. it vilontly spins the tire (one wheel drive) but i still think 1st is week. how should a 2400 feel?

That's how I felt when I started driving around my car I have the same setup as you too I always thought it was slipping buts its the stall converter that makes it feel like that, add some gears and you'll feel first gear ain't soo week lol I got 4.11's in mine and and it gets up quick haha

What did you use to get the extra fluid out of the trans?

I open the front line on the C4, start the engine and let the pump -pump fluid in a plastic container/bottle. I have rubber lines going to external trans cooler.
