I'm gathering the parts I need for a small bumper conversion but I've never even been near one yet (sm bumper Comet/Maverick). I'm sure it's hard to believe for you car veterans out there but I'm one that the car found me...and after subscribing to the forum fell in head first. Anyway I hope one day to start a project thread but until then I will be collecting all the goodies I've learned about here. My question is: Are these the 6 bumper bracket parts needed for the conversion? If not pls post pics. I've found various articles on conversions but nothing with detail pictures (yet). Thanks in advance
Yes those are the ones you need, here's a pic of how they were on my bumper: in the second pic you posted you will need two of those, although you might also be able to use the ones that are already on your car. those are the brackets that go from the front valence to the front subframe.
The valence brackets on mine a like a "Y" shape but I believe they will work. Did you notch the fenders? I've read some prefer to modify the gravel shield...
yeah i never tried to use the stock ones, because i broke them while taking them off. So i cant tell you if they'll work for sure. But i notched the gravel shilled..much easier and cleaner looking than notching the fenders.
Front Bumper Are these small bumper mounting brackets the same for Maverick and Comet? I assume so, but I don't want any surprises once I get a bumper
I think notching the stone guard looks better. And its much simpler. Here are my pics: http://mmb.maverick.to/showpost.php?p=704758&postcount=4
We did small bumper swap on my 73, and we notched the gravel thing and it all looks the same to me just much easier.
I've always figured, if your going to do it, why not do it right??.. the correct way is to notch the fenders. If you want to take short cuts, it's just going to take away from the overall quality of your car, and if that's the way you want to do things, why bother wasting the money in the first place...... It's not any harder to notch the fenders in the first place, and you might learn so new skills while your at it.... Plus it bring the overall quality of all Mavericks & Comets up, they can't be viewed as hacked up cheap cars....
