I live right around the corner from you .... Dunedin. Having a very hard time believing that this is the first time I have seen this thread. Nice car! Looks like it has spent all it's life in FL, like mine. We will have to get together, but not immediately ... work has me super-busy right now.
Thanks..... Nice, if you get some time freed up and want to come by the shop or something I can pm you my number and shop addy if you want..... Work having you busy these days is not a bad thing at all..... I bought it from Bradenton area, but they told me they bought it from Clearwater(it was yellow when it was in Clearwater)..... I also found an old repair reciept from St. Pete down di the quater panel..... So it has definately been around the Pinellas area for a while.....
71 Grabber Build U have a nice car. Also, u have posted some of the best pix's I've seen in my time (11mos) on this forum. I envy ur work area, it's much easier when u have a dedicated, roomy shop area to put stuff as it's dissassembled. I have learned a lot abt the body rust prone areas and seams from these pix's. I have a heads-up on where I need to go first, in case I ever get arnd to some dissassembly - Keep them coming for those of us who are new and learning these vechicles.
Thanks..... Well tonight I removed the rear seat, interior panels and carpet all only to find some unwanted rust..... So shortly after say oh happy day to myself I started scraping all the seam sealer from the seams on the floor and vacuumed it all up..... I did find some interesting ways to fix rust or atleast cover it up..... I found this under the carpet on the drivers floor..... and here is what I found under this repair/cover up..... Looks like I have some damage to the inner torque box panel..... Atleast the front and bottom panel seem to be solid..... On the passenger side I found this apparently bondo repair of a smaller hole in the floor and possible torque box.....
The passenger side rear floor also had a nice repair..... The first pic shows it attached to the floor, the second shows it after I yanked it off the floor and the third show what the floor looks lie after removing it.....
Looks like work to do ... still, guys from the rust belt would tell you "eh ... that's not rust .... " I had to patch my floors a bit. Having gone through it, I really should have bought a Mustang floor patch panel and gone bigger than I did. It would have been less work. ... food for thought .... CJ's Pony Parts sells panels pretty cheap. I could have bought a whole passenger side front pan for $35 or so.
That rear rust seems common, but you should be able to get a piece of of another car, and weld it in. As for the front, it's not that bad. I'm working on putting Mustang pans in one of my cars now, other than the pattern being different, it's not that bad.
It's not that big of a deal, I just don't want to do it..... Oh well, I think I am just going to use mustang floor pans..... I am going to check out the fit later this week, I have a 68 Mustang Fastback coming back from the paint shop for reassembly so I will be able to measure everthing up for comparison..... Happy day.....
Last night I got the e-brake cables removed..... I also took off the air shocks and the really nice shock bracket reinforcement/repair, of couse the damage was done due to the air shocks..... Pic's of the fine repair before removal.....
Thanks..... I decided I am going EFI on this project, and I was able to pick up a sweet intake for it last night..... I might not be the best thing out there performance, but I think it's probably the best looking Ford EFI intake out there..... Got a good deal on it too..... I was also able to get an A9L EFI computer yesterday from my boss, it is in excellent shape - not even a ding or scuff on it and none of the seals have been removed..... Best part is it was free.....:2occasion Here's a pick of the intake..... I also had to get some of these parts put away, so now my shops rafters and loft look like a Mav junk yard.....
I did manage to get some more stuff taken off the car today too..... It's getting pretty bare..... Looks like I am going to to have to put some more stuff away in the am before I get back to guttin the car.....
