To try and illustrate what I'm trying to say: Here's what the first side looks like; Here's what the backside looks like; Since there's no hole trough the entire link, I don't really understand what good any more knocking would do Should I just try to drill a hole straight trough, or is there some other fancy trick to it?
I think I remember that it does NOT go through. It lines up the slit in the sleeve once you get the sleve where it goes. Being that it is a tight fitting pin it should not just fall out. I think you are working on one of the smallest troublesome pieces on the car lol.
I don't think this is the one he's referring to. The one he's having trouble with is on the sleve end.. I think...
I have changed out 3 control valves and none had that roll pin installed... now with that out the way... try to screw a small easy-out and see if the roll pin comes out, or drill out the roll pin...
Good luck drilling it. Roll pins are pretty hard. I would use a dremel myself. Pics are great. They truly are worth a thousand words
I've been following this since I'll probably have to rebuild mine too. Why does the roll pin have to be removed? Looks like its out of the way and not hurting anything. If it does have to come out, can't you drill a hole in the other side of the bolt and drive it out?
If I remember right, It lines up with the slit of the sleve so it needs to come out to unscrew it. If it rots out (or gets pounded to smitherines ) then there is a problem. I don't know how crucial it is to have it tho. Drilling from the back side is a good idea. Getting it lined straight could be tricky and a drill press is the way to go.
Yeah, it's by the sleeve.. Since there's a hole on top of the control valve I just figured the pin went trough there Guess I wasn't supposed to beat on it I'll just try to drill it out or something like that
Finished with the steering a couple of weeks ago, also had to change all four tie rods and the starter as well Drove it for the first time yesterday... ...it was awesome
The pic was taken by a buddy of mine who was hanging out the sunroof of the car in front of me He also took a few more:
