Today i am pulling all the links on my set up to swap out for a power steering system. will i need to pull the steer knuckle for a different gear ratio? are they interchangeable? and besides new bushings what kind of upgrades can i set up for? thanks for your help! Rick:tiphat:

Power steering uses a different Pitman arm than the manual steering.

I was just looking at my new MU catalog today and saw the conversion kit to put a new modern p/stg gear and pump on a Mustang....no slave cylinder. That would be nice on a Maverick but pretty pricey. Around $900

Why do they need to come out?

you have to take the coil springs out so you can swap the spindles out for disc brake ones

coil spring aren't expansion i bought one from advance for 40 bucks or you could just rent one from them for like half that. its a tool worth having thou just incase.

also if your swapping from manual to power steering your might want to think or swapping to a power steering gear box has a higher ratio of turns. i have two with pit power steering pit arms on it if you are going to go that route

All you have to take loose is the tie rod ends and the ball joint.

Just be careful if you ever attempt that with the shock removed.....you could end up missing a few teeth should the coil spring jar loose.

Really no need to remove any upper coils or arms unless working on those parts. I like to put a block of wood under the upper arm while it is resting on it's own weight so when I lift the car it helps keep the arm up a little. There is a ledge under the arm that you can put a 2x on. This also helps from having to pry too much when removing the spindle from the lower BJ/arm.

im pulling the coils to update. they are beat just like everything else on this car. i started out changing to power steering, then if thats out i may as well go ahead and swap to front disc brakes. pass side ball joint is one unit with the upper control arm. drivers side was held in with three bolts. i dont under stand that anyway, i want the front end to have a good ride, since im this far into it, replace bushings, steering, spindles, shocks, may as well do the coils too.

Now you tell us lol. Ok. Well that one that has no bolts has never been changed, that's why it has no bolts. You reuse the arms unless they are damaged. Have you found all the parts you need?
