My 71 Maverick Grabber Build.....

Finished the cowl after work today..... Also started working aon the engine compartment a little.....

 

how do the cowls look on the inside? are you going to open up the cowl cover?

 

I may have missed it but how are you removing the pain? chemical or wirewheel? great job so far.

 

The paint is peeled inside and I can see some rust, but it doesn't appear to be rusted through..... The cowl cover will be coming off so it can be treated to prevent any holes.....

Thanks..... Kleen Strip paint remover, a scraper and a regular wire brush.....

 

I normally use lots of Advil. The chemicals burn a bit going down and I just haven't tried a wire brush yet. Sounds a little harsh to me.

I'm used to using the word pain . . . paint has become part of my vacabulary more recently.

 

I believe this is your grabber for sale in a carshow at Desoto Speedway.
Mines the grabber blue one next to yours.
The show was in April I think , A wire wheel does NOT work for a headache

 

That's it, infact the yellow card from the show was still in the car.....



I have been getting a bunch of stuff coming to the house(parts and supplies) that I had to get to the shop..... Got all of my POR15, some epoxy primer, new paint gun, some nice blue powder coated front upper/lower control arms and a bunch of other stuff.....

Also stripped the rest of the firewall and the pass side tower.....

 

I needed to get some protection on the shell because it was starting to surface rust, specially the roof where it had surface rust before..... Plus I needed a little break from stripping paint.....

So I cleaned every bit of old seam sealer out of the drip rail area so the rust in those areas could be treated properly..... Then I sanded the roof and pillars, cleaned all remaining paint and debis out of the window openings and trunk jam..... Next I finished prepping the rust areas for POR15 by first cleaning the surfaces with Marine Clean and then Metal Prep..... Dried everything off after rinsing and wiped it down with solvent..... Then I sprayed 2 coats of POR15 on the rust affected areas of the roof, pillars and drip rails.....

Tomorrow I'll get some epoxy primer on the roof, pillars, trunk jam and drip rails.....
