the power valve was ok. I was telling bryant that the whole carb looked a little "wet". so I'm guessing the fuel was shooting out of the bowl vent. the needle was probably stuck. we took the carb apart and everything else was ok.
so mo has been chaseing the stumble in the carb ever sence he put it on. he noticed that the primary bowl had a really small hole in it going from the accelorator pump chamber to the primary bowl chamber. he even tryed swaping bowls. when this happend and he had the edelbrock on we checked the holley again. he ended up puting a dab of epoxy over the hole. now the carb seems to run really well. just figured that was moe interesting info pertaining to this post.
According to my manual 17-22 is normal. 10-16 is low and usually means late ignition or valve timing or low compression. 4-9 is very low and is usually a Vacuum leak. I dont think mild cams have that big of an effect on vacuum. My last one was a crane 260/272 .454/.482 and it had 21in on a pretty worn out motor.
well I did check that vacuum port on the runner and the fitting was pretty loose . . . I'd use the term "floppy" or "barely hanging on". So I tightened that. But realized my vacuum lines are all pretty brittle and chewed up so I need to do a vacuum run. After I tightened the vacuum fitting the RPM's went up a little so I'll hook up the vacuum gauge and see what I get.
When you do the vacuum test be sure to notice how the needle acts. You want it to be steady. If it does something else like fluctuate or drop report it on here. And ill look it up in my manual.
Also i forgot to mention the power valve info. As your rpm goes up, your vacuum will drop. Since you have a 10.5 the valve opens up when vacuum drops to 10.5. The way i was taught is to choose a power valve that is half your reading at idle so a 10.5 power valve would be for an engine making 21in.
