Also, you might guess what it is. A. H.D. Shift handle for a Honda Accord B. New design for extreme duty windshield wiper arm for the new 2012 Lamborghini C. Frying pan handle for 12" aluminum pan from Walmart home/ Kitchens. D. None of the above
or the correct answer D, none of the above. It was on my original trans so I figured it can't hurt to have the vibration dampening on this one. I just cleaned it up and plan to attempt re-install (of the trans) tomorrow.
I have ONLY found those on 1968-1969 Fairlane/Torinos I have had. I have NEVER seen one on a Maverick.
Vibration Dampener, if it was needed or worked sufficiently it would have been used longer. Some newer cars tried them too, the the 5.0 stangs had the dampener on the rear Pinion and was a better ribber mounted weight. Most people remove them or leave them off if they had to remove it for some reason.
It does make a good handle and it also sits handily on the Parking break cable when trying to wiggle the trans into place.
I pulled a pan fill C4 out of a 78 LTD II at the Pull-A-Part a couple of months ago that had one of those. The car had what looked to be a fairly fresh rebuilt engine. Honestly, I thought maybe it was some sort of handle a mechanic used to leverage the engine and trans into the mounts from under the car....and just forgot to take it back off when he was done. It looked really "home made". It never occurred to me it could be a factory part. Cleaver
