Was wondering what you thought about de-chroming a car. My chrome is in fair shape, but I was thinking of removing it down the road when I get a paint job. I already have body colored bumpers, for now at least.
I like chrome on these cars. I find body color bumpers and chrome delete kind of dated. But Chrome is dated too so to each his own I guess. However there are a few cars on here with body color components that really suit the car. Ah hell I dont have a clue SORRY. Guess it depends on the type of look you plan for your own car. I chose to lean more towards a factory look with my own little subtle changes. I didnt put my drip rail trim back on for fear of cutting the paint off. If you plan on installing the rail and door trim be careful how thick the primer and paint gets. If I did it again I would limit it in these areas so the trim is an easier install. I would prefer my car with the drip rail mouldings back on.
Stainless trim and painted bumpers but NOT body color. You get your own spot in the poll. Like my good friend Carey says..."These cars are so similar and yet so different from each other in the details." Something like that anyhow but you get the idea.
Mine has painted bumpers, but not body color. I went with metalflake silver, and then clear coated it. It shines like chrome, but you can tell it's just not quite as bright as chrome. I've had a lot of compliments on it. I think it would look good on your red car....
Chrome is the way to go, unless it's a dark colored car, body colored trim just doesn't look good, plus it's been outta style for a few years now. It's bad enough driving an odd ball car, but to also be stuck in the 80's....
I personnally don't think painting body color dates the car, but I think it only looks good in certain combinations ... which I can not definitely describe, I just know when I see a car that looks good to me, and that sometimes includes cars with colored bumpers. Many (most? all?) new cars have bumper covers. Disclaimer: My wife says I'm stuck in the 80's.
In Pennsylvania Dutch country that would fit right in. Me personally, I think a little bit of chrome on our cars helps. Without it the cars look pretty plain.
I'm pianting mine a flat silver color,to make them look like brushed aluminum like on the old thunderbolts,of course my bumpers are gonna be fibergass also.
