Does anybody know where I can get the Cable that runs down the length of the shifter? Took apart the shifter because the button was sticking and found the cable was frayed and only holding together by a few strands. Thanks, Smo
No I Don't Frank, but it's the piece of cable that runs down the middle of the Shaft of the Shift handle and at the bottom of the cable is the bolt that you can adjust. the top end has the plastic piece that lines up into the middle of the T-Handle.So when you squeeze the button on the T-Handle the plastic piece slides over and puts tension on the cable which lifts the lock release next to the gear indicator. when you release the button it lets that cable go back down and lock the shifter into the gear it is lined up with. It's a stock Maverick floor shifter. Sorry if I don't know the proper names of the pieces on the shifter. If anyone can make any sense of my description please go ahead and chime in if you can make my description any better. Anyways the cable is frayed at the top where it goes into the T-Handle and it sometimes makes the shifter lock to hang-up. And I really need to replace that Cable before it breaks. Thanks, Smo
Hey Frank if you go to the tech article how to rebuild a sloppy shifter. Scroll down to the first picture and the plastic piece and it also has a ball bearing opposite the plastic piece at the top of the shift shaft. at the bottom is the bolt with the nut at the end you can adjust the tension is at. Inside the middle of the shaft is the cable i'm talking about. God, I hope I didn't offend anybody with my description. Now that I look at my explanation, it sound kind of kinky. Thanks, Smo By the way this is MamaSmo's husband. I didn't realize I was signed on under her name. I'm sure she'll get a kick out of my explanation. Thanks, Bigsmo92
that's what i was looking for...:Handshake i have a few diff...automatic floor shifters...(for Fords) I will be out of town for the next 2-3 days but when i get back and if you haven't found one yet, i will see what i have. ...Frank...
They did on a FLOOR SHIFT car (as descibed in the topic). Don't worry, Dave....I was thrown off as well.
Thanks for everybody's input. Don't feel bad Dave I confused myself trying to explain it. I'll try to look at the Mustang supply houses. I'll let you know if I find one Frank. Thanks, Bigsmo
I've never taken one of those shifters apart that much to realize there is a cable in there....I might just have to do it and see.
Thanks for everyones help, I found one at Mustangs unlimited for $13.95 I think I can handle that. Thanks again everybody, Bigsmo
