Mine too, sometimes I have to dodge the molten metal balls..... I got the 1"x 2" tube fabbed and welded in on the pass side against the torque box plate..... Then I got the car back on the tires again so I can clean my mess of a shop in the am..... I also need to get some stuff ready for the swap meet on Sun, it doesn't look like I'll get much done over the weekend.....
Damn Frank, I take a 2 week vacation in Florida, with no internet, and come back to more of your great progress photos Tomorrow I'm going to the big Good Guys event at the Pocono Raceway so when I get back it will surely be time for me to get back to work on my Maverick.
You're crappy upside down welds still look better than my best! I might do better with some good equipment...maybe!
Just found this thread, very nice looking job. Gonna be watching your progress, hopeing that some of your enthusiasm is contageous. My project is stalled just past 'tear it down& weld up rust holes"
Actually having decent equipment does help..... Thanks, hope you continue to enjoy the progress as much as I do..... Went to the swap meet today and ended up speending more then I made..... I did get a couple good things though..... I got a nice 9" rear with some 31 spline Strange SS Axles and an early Torker 289 Intake Manifold.....
After the swap meet deal last weekend and a couple of side jobs I need to do during the week I got nothing done on the car..... Saturday I was finally able to get back to work on it, I figured I would tear the 9" rear I bought apart to check everything..... What I found wasn't too good, everything that was supposed to be there was, the problem is the driver side axle only engages the spline of the center section byt about a 1/2"..... Not good enough for me, the worse part is they cut some off that axle(too much to be exact)..... Then I took the 8" out of the car so I could compare the overall lengths of the housing, axles and such..... Looks like I am going to have to get my rear wheels and tires so I can figure out if I can make that driver side axle work or if I wil have to get a new one..... I put the axles back in the 8" housing and put it back under the car for now, I used the custom angle iron/hose clamp center section to support the axles temporally so I can still roll the car around and also test fit wheels/tires..... After all that usless crap I started stripping the rest of the floor pan stripped..... After that I will start making the repair panels and weld them in the floor.....
Nice work and I like that fancy angle iron and hose clamp contraption you have on the axles to roll it around.Never would've thought of that. I just got a 70 mav two nights ago so I will be rolling it into the shop this weekend and get started cleaning all the crap out of it.
Thanks and good luck with your project..... Picked up a 351w for the car on Friday..... It's a all standard roller shortblock that is very good rebuildable condition..... I managed to finish stripping the floor pan up to the rear seat area this morning..... I need to start making the floor repair panels now.....
