My '73 Maverick with stock 302 2v, c-4, and 3.00 rear gear ratio, in good running condition is getting 15 miles per gallon. It still has the points ignition and factory style single, small, restrictive exhaust. Does that sound right to you guys? I am planning on switching it over to elctronic ignition, with MSD box and coil, and putting dual exhaust with shorty headers to help in the fuel economy of the vehicle. Have any of you had the same set up, with the same modifications that I am planning on doing? If you have, what was your outcome?

i get 15 mpg and i have shorty headers with duel glass-packs, pertronix electric ignition, c4 trans and 3.00 gears with a 600cfm edelbrock carb on top and do have 225/50-15 tires all the around so not exactly skinny. so id say theres not a huge fuel mileage jump with doing this

I didn't even get that kind of mileage with my 91 Mustang. maybe if you are only calculating highway mileage. I averaged 18 mpg combined driving in my AOD and T5 mustangs.

I'm afraid to check What I am getting now. Might even be single digits. Don't really care. Speedo isn't right speed anyways so the world will never know. Seems like I put $20 in it everytime I take it out of the garage. So I guess it gets 20$pd ($ per day) the new abbreviation to rate our cars in.

WOW, that's good! Thanks. Maybe I'll go that route also. Do you think an AOD would net me 20 mpg?

I kinda wanted a daily driver out of it, but...... Thanks, Dave.

I have my stroker motor Maverick. In that one I don't care, cause it has got to MOVE. I just want the daily driver Maverick to be quite efficient.

I've never used a Maverick as a daily driver, or considered (or built) any of mine, as fuel efficient transportation.

Sorry no help on this one except to say that 15 sounds about right.
I have no idea what mine gets. I just add fuel as needed.
These cars as daily drivers up here is why we dont have any up here. A few winters and these cars are done. We have salt on the roads from Nov. till March give or take.
