Friend Jim, second owner of the Sprint, came today to help pull out the bench seat and install the carpet and buckets. Started by letting the new carpet soak up the nice November sun to relax the shipping creases. Seats out showing the sound and heat insulation previously installed. Jim making holes in the carpet for the seat mount bolts. I'm really pleased with the carpet and the upholstery by Fred Carello. So much of what is available today is junk but these things are great quality. Carpet layed down just like it should. I'm amazed that a guy can take some flat pieces of material and make those seat covers. I still have to put the covers on the rear seat cushions and finish up several details. Looks like the interior will be ready for the Maverick's first car show. The 2010 Carolina Collector Car Show is Saturday at the NC State Fair Grounds. I'm taking the Sprint and another friend will have his '69 Ford Camper Special with a 460 and 5-speed in the corral. Should be fun.
I like the latest upgrade. I got to get Fred going on my seats. I want vinyl and cloth inserts. Are ur seats vinyl & cloth? How long it take to get them after ur order? Im still workin on my AC/heater box, got more involved than I had planned. Anyway, nice going on the Mav.
Looks great. I have a set of reclining buckets that I need to remove from my parts car and get done to match my interior.
WOW !!! Looks really Great. Did you happen to take pictures of the seat process? The taking apart and puting back together process. I will be tackling this next spring.
Thanks, everyone, for the comments. Mojo, the material is the original cloth from SMS and white vinyl and red piping from Fred. Craig, those are the very rare Sprint bucket seats. Anyway, that's my story for people who won't know better. They're '88 Camaro seats I picked up at Carlisle in excellent condition (other than worn covers) with tracks for $30. The seller said they were Mustang seats and I didn't know better. Guys I was with set me straight but no matter to me. They're light, they recline and I don't think they look out of place in the Maverick.
No pictures but its not hard. Pick up a cheap pair of hog ring pliers and about 100 hog rings. (Don't buy the hog rings at Advance -- $8 for 20!!)Have a good pair of diagonal cutters, or small bolt cutters, cut the old hog rings, and pull the the covers off. Save any wires in the covers to put back in the new covers. If the molded rubber cushions aren't in great shape, buy new ones. If the covers for the bucket backs are tight fitting, put a plastic garbage bag on first and the covers will slide on lots easier. When you put the covers on, get the front edge positioned correctly first, then the back, then the sides. When you're hog ringing the seats will be upside down. Sometimes it helps to lean on the seat frame to compress the springs and get the covers tight.
