    What spec's do you want..... It's a pretty standard 6 pt roll bar..... 1.75" mild steel......


    Didn't make much progress today..... I had to figure out where and how much of a bend I want in the rear bars where they will go through the package tray..... I'll take them over tomorrow to get them bent..... I also had to clean up atleast a little bit..... After that I figured I'd go ahead and start the pass side seat mount.....

    Here's all I got done on the pass side seat mount today.....

    Thank you.....

    If you shorten a rear without a jig how do you know it's straight when your done..... The way your link shows to do it will only make the rear as straight as it was originally at best, I'll tell you right know I check everyone I ever do before cutting it and I have never found a stock rear that is straight on both ends.....

    Well you may think I am being anal about it but I have seen cars pick up as much as .2 in the 1/4 mile after straightening the rear with my usless jig..... I like to get all the free et I can when building a car, and mabye not everyone is about et/drag racing but I am...... Besides my last car you couldn't hardly push with no motor/trans in it, after doing the rear it could be pushed with very little effort with the motor and trans in..... That translates into better gas mileage and less tire wear even if you don't race it......

    You know what they say about opinions.....:rofl2:

    .2 seconds? hmmm....if you say so. For the average guy, I seriously doubt you would ever be able to see or measure the difference in handling or tire wear. I also do not believe there is any documented proof either way. But as you say, its all opinions. Carry on, your build is still spectacular!! Are you planning on attending the NPD show in Jan?

    Out of pure curiousity, how do you compensate for the amount the housing is out of tolerance? Don't the bearing ends press fit into the housing before welding? Forgive my ignorance but I have never shortened a housing before, all I know about it is what I have seen on TV and I just can't take that for more than face value.

    Unfortunately not going to make it this year anyways.....



    The factory ends usually do press in, but the aftermarket ends are made to butt flush against the cut off housing tubes..... So you can have some shift in alignment when welded on.....

    Frank,

    I would like to encourage you to get up to the NPD show at Silver Springs, even if it is just to spectate and meet up with some other Mav/Comet folks ... two years ago, with perfect weather, it was something like 1800 cars ... last year it was freezing and it still was about half that number ... all Fords. Board members from several states each time too.

    I am in the Vintage Roadrace and restoration business ( building, servicing, and track supporting 8 to ten cars on average and have done award winning Shelby and Boss 302 restorations in my shop ) and have been a car guy for 35 years and this is one of if not the best post I have ever Looked at and some of the best amature ( I'm not sure you can be classififed as an amature ) work I've ever seen. I have some friends that own Predator Performance in Largo Florida and I visit them about 4 or 5 times a year. Next time I'm down that way I would love to come look at this car. It's just awesome. I sat here and tried to keep my mouth shut over the post about the rear-end housing being narrowed the proper way buy I can't hold back. For you to put fourth the effort you have on this car and then someone say it's not really a big deal to do the rear-end narrowing the correct way just blows my mind..Some guy's will just never get it....Your doing a GREAT JOB on this car......Gary
