Hey fellas, its been awhile.. Ive been workin hard on the Mav tho!.. After comp.testing the engine last month, I found 3 out of 6 cylinders were GONE.. Thats the reason i couldnt get it to ever ideal right.. Since then Ive had the head rebuilt and tested the piston rings.. Now its finally all put back together.. I also eliminated the ac and heater core for a simpler look.. the heater core hoses were already looped around from the last owner, so I was guessing it sprung a leak.. So I removed the hoses completely, and used plumbing block offs in the head and water pump.. Is that going to cause any problems later? But what I need help with is, figuring out how I should have the full exhaust system from the manifold back built.. I was thinking 2in piping and a long Cherry Bomb glass pack. Or a Cherry Bomb extreme muffler running dual pipes out the rear.. PS Its a 200ci
Nice looking engine bay. Ive never heard a six cylinder sound good with cherry bomb glass pack. Get some sort of chambered muffler, Flowmaster, Flowtech, Hooker etc. I don't even think a Magnaflow would sound good, they are still a straight through design with glass packing, they sound good on v8s though.
im not sure if caping off the heater ports will work on the i6. some motors need them to work like a bypass for when the t-stat is closed so the collant stays circulateting in the block to warm up evenly. if there is a bypass hose on the water pump going to the head or block then you can probly leave it blocked off.
If you like the twin pipe look, I'd go with a stock style 1 in 2 out muffler (like '90s GM trucks). Sixes sound good...when you can't hear them.
You can try capping them off but watch your temp gauge and see what happens if it dont try to run hot you would be ok! (It dose look good)
i wouldn't think it will be a problem. most heater systems have a...heater control valve...that shuts the water off when the heater is in the off position...
I guess I'll have to post a video of mine soon. 2 inch pipe is a good choice for the six. if you run a glasspack split into duals and use (12" glasspacks) and keep them closer to the engine. ive heard plenty of flowmaster/magnaflow variants on sixes but they aren't right for the six IMO. flowmaster hushpower would be good if choice and if you want to avoid a loud exhaust system.
my v8 non ac car doesnt use a a heater controle valve, neither did my non ac pinto, nor did my ac equiped 87 mustang, or my 95 f150. in my experice in automotive repair (14 years) i would say more cars dont have a control valve than do. i have not had experience with a i6 maverick but from being on this site i do know that the ac car have the heater control vavle and the op did say the took off the as. so he should have a heater control valve. the op also said that the heater hoses were just looped around. i dont know if the i6 has any sort of bypass hose or passage so that is why i posted the warning.
I totally agree with Ryan. I ran a magnaflow muffler and it sounded like crap, i also tried a bullet type muffler and it sounded terrible. Then i ran a 40s flowmaster it sounds great! Also a cherrybomb turbo II muffler it sounds just like the 40s but its under twenty bucks at any autozone. I have several videos of it on youtube. Just search for acmav289. Its a 200 stock manifold with a single 2.5" pipe to a dual 2" outlet setup out the back. I really like the axle back dual exhaust over a single. It gives the car a lower tone and makes it less loud which on a I6 is what you want. For a mid pipe i would just do a single to keep up the velocity. I would go with at least a 2.25" or 2.5" off the manifold remember its six cylinders in one pipe, thats a lot of exhaust.
Okay cool, I got it... Ill watch that old SW temp. gauge for sure.. And go with Maverick75s setup suggestion .. 2.5in back to a Cherry Bomb Turbo 2 exiting with 2in duals.. should be nice.. watch for updates
