just got done tearing my 5.0 apart and it is a lot worse than i thought bearings were all down to copper and the crank has ridges on all the journals.so is it time for a 347 stroker kit i think so since i will have to have some machine work done i might as well stroke it.going to talk to the machine shop monday then i will decide.i suppose i could just bore it and put new pistons in it and have the crank cut.all depends on the $$$$$$$$ john P.S. all the cylinders have rust pits in them from the motor sitting
david last summer my oil pump pickup tube came away from the pump while i was racing so i wanted to do the rebuild so i could check everything out and glad i did. no biggie its off to the shop monday john
John, Woody (Jim) is the person that built my long block for me he built me a street friendly version and it runs 11.40s and but I have never ever really pushed it and feel that I could probably get real close to 11.00, only problem is it takes quite awhile to get an engine from him as he has a big backlog. He used to sell strokers kits but no longer sells them you have to get a shortblock, so for you it would probably not be the best idea but would give you some insight as to what others have done. I have spent several hours there reading and researching but be aware as most people on the site are very biased toward certain products and people so site is not for everyone or the faint at heart. Once you have posted 10 times it opens up new avenues of research and then it gets really interesting
thanks mike for the input and i think i am going to freshen up my motor with new .30 over pistons and have the crank cleaned up.that should put me back in good running buisness
I think that is a good idea, you can achieve what you desire with what you have for a lot cheaper than buying a stroker kit. If I were you I would invest in a good set of heads a cam that fits your requirements and a good induction set up
CALICO COATINGS not saying its a must, but its good insurance. I ran them in my stroker motor and never had any trouble.
