Ok so I found a Mav. Sitting between some trees i have talked to the owners son a couple of times. The thing has been sittin 20+ years and has not moved or been started. It has extremely low miles... under 30k and is a one owner car. The panels are a little soft from rust but i think, all in all, its still solid.. Is there anything specific i should check out or look for before i buy this thing???
Frame rails, torque boxes, cowl, trunk floor, hood underside, radiator support, apron under the battery.
I'd buy it if it's a good price. You can always part it out. The body is bound to be in bad shape from sitting under trees that long. They keep the ground moist,so under the car is probably toast! You may luck out, though. I have a friend that bought a 56 Ford pickup from a farm in Hastings,Fla.,that had a tree growing THROUGH it! They had to bring a chainsaw to get it out of there! It wasn't in that bad of shape, and they got the original 292 running again! No one knows why the truck was parked there, because after my friend got it running,it drove fine! Go figure?
Thanks fellas. It ran just fine when it was parked... My friends mom was to old and scary behind the wheel so they took it away from her in 91 and it has been sittin since. I still dont know motor but it is an automatic and possibly free. I will check this thing out a little more Thanks again guys if i get it i will post some pics.. It is yellow with some moss accents all over it ... I will let you guys know!
Check your checking account and see how much money you have, because it is going to take A LOT of it to get it road worthy again.
The issues, that I've had to deal with, on my 69.5 were the insides of the rear frame rails, drop in gas tank frame panels, very rear of trunk floor across tail panel, rear inside bumper mounts (the ones that are welded to the trunk floor) cowls, driver side front torque box, driver and passenger side floor boards (see cowl )both rocker panels, both rear quarter panel bottoms, inner trunk drop offs to quarter panel, both door bottoms and bottom of front fenders behind wheels.] And all of the above issues were mainly due to the car sitting from 1987 until 2004
If it's been sitting a while in Alaska 10 will get you 30 that even if free you'll end up with as much in it as a decent and better protected used one. Just keep watching the web--they're always still showing up. Course, if it's free and you're in the position to part it out--absolutely. Get you some seed cash.
