I have a monte carlo bar roughed out. after measureing, I seems the shock towers have sagged inward about 1.25 inches. Do I need to push them back out to 30.81" or just install the bar where they are and stop the sagging and stiffen the front end?
Loosen all of the bolts on top of the fender to allow movement. Using two jacks...jack up the front end where the lower control arms attach to the towers. The weight of the car and gravity will spread the towers back. Install the Monte Carlo bar then tighten the fender bolts.
Hi, Just a thought and a question for when I also do this same installation: Will a new front end alignment be required if I allow the shock towers return to their factory location, install the monte carlo bar and then tighten everything back up? Thanks for any replies from this knowlegeable forum! BaldEagleMav
How would the hood close, if the towers were sagged in an inch and a quarter? the towers hold the inner fenders in place...
Dave that is a good question. Maybe i am measureing fromthe wrong place to get the distance from tower to tower. I thought it was from the front of the hole in the towers.
Dave, you asked my question. As long as there is a gap on both sides of the hood, the towers should be in the right place.
what do I do? monte carlo "I have a monte carlo bar roughed out. after measureing, I seems the shock towers have sagged inward about 1.25 inches. Correct, there is enough clearance where the U-clips attach to the aprons to allow alot of "floating" of the fenders. However, I would think the rear tower braces would prevent over an inch of movement, unless they are missing or bent.
The rear braces were missing when I got my car. I did get some and they fit right on with no problems and still do. I have to be measuring from the wrong place to have the measurement that far off and yet everything fits.
But just forcing them back apart won't necessarily put them back where they belong. What if the right side is weaker and the left doesn't move at all when you put the ram on it, and only the right moves out. Then you would have a horrible mess. I would have it done professionally so that it is still straight when you are done.
You think so? The u clips don't really have that much play, and the fenders have just under an inch for the slot...but maybe... I can measure up my brown car, and see if it's the same measurements if you want.
