I got this idea from JoeDirt, I replaced the fuel sending unit on my '73 with a '65-'68 Mustang unit off of ebay. It came from Mustangs Unlimited.
    $19.95+$8.95 shipping. $28.90 total
Like JoeDirt, I had to cut the factory plug off the car, and put eyelets on each wire end. The yellow wire went on the single prong on the sending unit and the black wire was ground to the chassis. The unit works great, and is accurate.:thumbs2:

Can't see inside a gas tank, if it works, it works.

I got one of the $80 ones from AK (via E-Bay). It reads full with the neeedle completely out of sight and at 1/2 full it's almost empty (won't pick up gas) still has 5 or 6 gallons in ther tank. I am not impressed. AK says send it back which I will do.

I see the eBay part has only a 5/16" pickup tube. Even my '70, which came with a 200 cid 6, had a 3/8" pickup and tubing running to the engine.

I took the sock off mine and put a 6" piece of hose on the tube. then put a small filter on the end. this way it picks up all the gas but the last 1/2" in the tank.
then I set the float to read empty with 2 gals. left in the tank. it reads full for the first 150 miles but when it reads empty i know there is 2 gals. in the tank...:yup:

also my...Dakota Digital...fuel guage starts flashing when it gets down to 10%...(2 gals.) that makes 4 gals. from empty.

    ...:drive:...
