I've heard of using easy off oven cleaner to remove the anodize. Problem is the aluminum will constantly turn white without any protection. It should be reanodized or clear coated.
Maybe on a daily driver left outside, but I did the aluminum taillight housings and headlight doors on my '66 Fairlane 10 years ago and they look the same today as they did then.
My Dad told me about using oven cleaner to do that too. He just waxed it when he washed the car and it never oxidized with him either.
