Originally we were planning on doing a small bumper swap, but the big bumpers have grown on me and Matt. We are going to keep them. I think the picture of the red, big-bumper comet a few months back seal the deal on that one.

Now comes the question this now poses. The "shelf" that joins the bumper to the car - what color should we paint it. The body will be grabber blue with a blacked-out rear panel.

I found these pictures in the gallery of big bumpers as examples

Silver seems to be the going color.

Just my opion, but I would think the silver/chrome paint on the material will make it look cheap and bring attention to it when you really want the attention on the bumper or better yet the car's body/rear panel. Good luck and whatever you decide will be the right one! Be sure to post some pics for us to see what you ended up doing!

Paint it black, black grille, and do a bumper tuck. I would do blue in the back, as big bumper cars dont have a valance. Black in the back would distrack the viewer from the body.

The 4th picture you have up there is not a big bumper car, it's a 73, which is a medium bumper.

True. I put it up because it also has a "shelf" and just wanted examples of painted ones. Plus I thought it looked cool with the grabber hood and a not-small bumper. :)

My 73 had a black back panel and I painted the filler panel and grill black as well. I liked the look. My vote: black

Body color looks best. When I repainted my white car, they were orange from the factory, to match the stripe, we repainted them white, it looked much better.

I would paint the front one the same color as the grill or body color.

The back end I would paint the same color as the side stripes.

I used a "hammered" plastic silver paint for the rock guard on the front of my 73 front bumper. It's not super shiny and I think makes a nice transition from the bumper chrome to the grill. I might tend to go with body color on the back.
