Alright I'm seriously looking for a maverick 1970-73 Just waiting for the right one to come along. My dilema is I'm not 100% sure if I want an Original V8 grabber and retore it, or if I want to do a restomod. either way it will be a small bumper/ rear spoiler car, wether I make it that way or buy it that way. I like the idea of having an original grabber but if I did I'd be tempted to keep it fairly original. On the other hand if I go the restomod route I'd probably build myself a nice 347 SBF and put an AOD behind it, probably go with the wilwood disc brake conversion etc. I'm sure many of you can see my dilema. I NEED HELP!! =) opinions are greatly appreciated.
Way back when, my dad always said that he could tell what I was going to do with a car within the first 24 hrs I had it. It depended on if I changed the wheels or not. :bananaman He was right. The answer you are looking for is a hard one to answer if you are looking for someone to tell you what to build because you are the one that has to be happy with it. If you can't decide which way to go, get two.
Well you will find no matter what way you go, make it yours and you will be happy. Only the first cut is hard in a modified car. All the rest come easy. Do what you want with the car, any car you decide to get. In the Maverick/Comet world they will probably never be a retirement plan on wheels. And remember a few things, You will never get out of them what you have in them and it is almost always cheaper to buy one already finished.
I wud look for the most solid car body/chassis wise I cud find, be it Grabber or whatever. I wud then do with it whatever I desired as far as restomodding goes. It's not like u can go out on a regular basis and find one of these cars that don't need a lot of metalwork. In other words; I wud not buy a rust bucket just so I cud keep from modding a Grabber. Im sure u wud not be the only one in Blue Oval community who has one. JMO
This is why I have 3, one 100% factory stock (or it will be) another slightly modified, and another highly modified. All real Grabbers, all V8 cars, and 2 with factory A/C. Stock Mavericks are pretty boring, even to a purist like me. I like em, but they can be pretty plain in the early years.
I say get a comet cut it up and put maverick grabber parts on it anyway you like. Give the car some class :firesuit: LOL Seriously like stated above find the most solid chassis in your price range, and make it your own. Don't worry about keeping it original, modify away
From building other cars and building race motors etc. I know all to well that building a maverick isn't going to be a money maker. It's more about the enjoyment Iwill get out of it. I don't want a trailer queen, I want something I can drive, and being a drag racer I know I'm going to want something with Balls lol. For those that are interested here is a pic of my current ride, It's only good for short trips though LOL Before the new paint with a SBC in it.
Yeah I'm the same way good with faces bad with names. hell half the time I can barely remember my own Name.
couldnt have said it better myself. ive done the same thing....i have a '73 that will be restored to near factory condition, and a '71 that's pretty much a complete resto-mod..this way i can have the best of both worlds
Well I'm poor and can only have one LOL That way I will only have a maverick, a pickup, a daily driver, 2 race cars a motorhome, a race trailer and a golf cart LOL
Do you know Steve, in Dorchester? He has more than one Maverick, he was kinda playing with the idea of selling his black one last year. It's been to cruise night a few times.
Well I know a Steve lightfoot, and Steve Scrans either one of those?? any idea what he was going to ask for it?? what kind of shape is it in??
