Has anyone ever converted a set of Maverick hood hinges to use springs or found a set from another vehicle that will interchange with a Maverick/Comet. I would really like to find a way to eliminate the factory prop rod on my car.

I have come across a few companies that make aftermarket billet hinges for early Mustangs that use small gas shocks instead of springs, but I know it's a fantasy to think they would develop a set to fit a Maverick.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever looked into this or done any research.

    Thanks

I pulled the hinge springs off my mustang, and built a prop rod like the maverick's. I don't like that much pressure on the hood.

Here's some that were on a car at last years Round Up, adapted from a Mustang kit. You never know what you'll learn going to a Round Up, unless you go....

I've been planning on doing that also but I never thought about attaching it there. Thanks for posting that Dave. Looks like that should work great and be very much out of the way! I've got several different lengths of shocks to work with. Now I need to get off my butt and do it!

Looks similar to this kit, I wonder if this is where it was adapted from.

I saw those last year at the Round-Up and talked to the guy. He said the shocks popped off a few times until they were cycled a few times. It appeared to me that the mounting points were not in-line with each other, which I believe would cause that problem.

I used the hood pistons from a 91 acura legend on my mustang, I may try to use a set on my mav. one side of the piston uses an eye but the other end actually has a bracket attached that bolts down. Took about 10 min of fidleing to get the mounting point right. I used them for about 2 years with no trouble.

You can just see the brackets.

Hello all, new year good so far I hope. I am looking for newer gas spring installation for hood of 72 Comet as the last post was 2011 and I can't open any pics. I am getting old [bought car new] and hood is getting heavy! Help!
