tore down for major cleaning and fresh paint. do you think it looks best painted same as block? or....maybe some of you have done something different? if so, share a picture? Thank you, Rick
Duplicolor GM258 (this is a spray can), is close. I also found one that is a Chrysler color, I'll have to find the number. It's a blue-ish teal color.
Fair chance it`s Ford auth. reman. They painted lots of the remans green, usually has reman sticker stuck on but comes off easy.
I painted mine black, but the color Dave posted looks much better! Plus itll be easier to keep clean.
I wish I could have found a bigger picture.... Here's what mine looked like in my car, when I bought it:
thats what color mine is dead on! i was thinking of going a different color, but i did like the way that BIG one looked.
If you folks don’t mind since you’re talking power steering pumps and I need to replace mine when the weather warms up again what's the procedure to bleed them when replacing? I have a 74 and it looks like it has cooler/radiator type thing with hoses to the ps pump. I’ll have to trace the small hoses underneath my car to be sure but it looks like it does, I originally thought it was a cooler for the auto trans and it still may/should be?
it is the pump oil cooler. i never have seen such but that's what it is. mine is kinda rusty. going to paint that black.
That's what I'm thinking but I didnt think you needed an oil cooler for your ps pump but my main concern is I've read after installing your ps pump it needs to be bled but from where?
I would use something like Eastwood's Radiator Black if you paint a cooler so not to interfere with heat transfer properties.
Use a rubber hose stopper (like a bottle stopper from the hardware store), drill a hole in the middle of the stopper for a vacuum line, fill the pump fill tube with fluid initially with the engine off, have someone start the car and turn the wheel back and forth gently lock to lock(don't hold it on the stops), if the pump still whines like it has air in it, put your stopper with the vacuum line in the fill tube hole, hook the other end of the vacuum line to intake manifold vacuum(verify it has full vacuum at idle), pull slight vacuum on P/S system (will make noise) while your assistant is turning the wheel back and forth as before. Remove vacuum and turn lock to lock again to verify you have no more noise.
I have the same problem w/ my setup. I had the pump rebuilt and it whines. It was whining and leaking B4 rebuild. Not leakin - but still whining. I tried bleeding w/o the vac method. I am going to try the stopper method. My pump has an opening abt 1 inch. ID and I am wondering abt the stopper ur referring? Do they come that large? I have a hand vaccum pump. How much vac shud I use? Will I need to vac some of the fluid out w/ the air? This thread was right on time. I was going to start one like it soon. I need to get the pump quiet B4 I stared installing new AC setup. Thanks for any suggestions. Stopping that noise wud really get the new cruiuzing season off to a great start. I put up w/ that noise all last year; it will be among the top/first priorities to work out this year.....I hate that noise.
