Hi guys, I have recently heard that diesel engine oil works better on our engines than the regular monograde oil, have any of you heard this? Cheers!

Isnt it something to do with zinc content??
Not a big deal in a roller tappet engine.

They cleaned up 18 wheelers BIG time! The exhaust is cleaner then air in your bigger cities. Zinc in diesel oil has really dropped. I would not trust it for flat tappets., plus 15-40 sorta heavy. I think Bob the oil guy has readings on it, or take a oil sample for yourself. Check with truck garages on oil samples, under $20.
    Additive only way to go.
    my opinion,,,

My buddy just did a bunch of research on this. He driver a ten second flat tappett import that revs to 9k, so he needs all the help he can get. He found rotella to have the most zinc. Before that it used to be brad penn(which is what i run), but they dropped their levels. So i'll be switching to rotella next oil change.

You need the high zinc during break-in with flat tappet (mechanical or hydraulic) cams. After the first 200 - 500 miles you can use any oil you like.

to be honest...NO, im confussed. first of all, i get that its good oil for big rig trucks, used it myself until the C-15 cats came out.
but we are talking about break in on a mild 302 for every day use, that i might put my foot into once in awhile. i did'nt see anything in there that refer's to that.
i did see that putting additive in at every oil change was good insurance for $12.95. and to a point it is. sure the cost of your oil change gos up. but all im asking is this,

from day one when i first fill the crank case, to be protected from top to bottom in the break in period, what is the best oil to place in the motor?
second, how long until first oil change?
third, same oil? additive? other provisions?
