I tried "search" for this, and couldn't find anything,so here goes! I want to redo the "chrome outline" around my gauge cluster before I put it back in. I understand there is a felt tip paint marker for this. I have not been able to find this. Do any of you know where I can find this,or a suitable way to outline those small chrome lines around the speedometer and info lights and fuel gauge? I think it will be much easier to do with the cluster out of the car! Thanks in advance!!! I know some of you have done this before!:)

Go to one of those craft super stores, they have metallic silver paint pens, they work. 99% of the people that see it will never know it's suppose to chrome.

Hmmm, the outer edges of my 70's gauges appeared to be Argent, not chrome. Is that a later year thing or maybe mine were just crappy to start with? I bought the car when it was only 2 1/2 years old.

Mine's a 74 Maverick, and the air conditioning vents also have this trim on them. It definitely looks like chrome. I have no clue how you would chrome plastic,as you need electrolysis for metal plating. I have checked a few places for the markers and they are all silver paint. I'll keep looking and thanks for your replies! Dave's right, though,if I can't find the actual chrome, silver would work. I'd just have to paint everything to match!:)

Check the hobby stores. Testors has Metalizer paints that can be applied to plastic and then hand polished. It's more "chrome-like" than actual chrome, but I don't think the stuff on plastic isn't real chrome anyway unless it flakes off in chunks. The process for chroming plastic is different than metal and I don't remember the specifics off the top of my head. The IP bezel and AC vent bezel don't appear to flake, more like rub it too hard, and it just rubs off :banghead:

I was looking into this for my 65 falcon cluster (not reproduced) and found a company called Alsa online. Their chrome paint seems like it would work but it's not cheap!

You can chrome plastic! On a episode of Chop Cut Rebuild they explained the process. I don't remember how but they coat the plastic first in a metal. Then chrome that.

My 75 has neither. It's painted the same color as the rest of the dash, the vent's also dont have it. It's just a plain jane car though. I wonder if the higher models got the paint.

I used silver pin-striping tape. Took a little patience, but looks nice and clean.
