Which strip on a 76 Maverick

  1. You are too sensitive. Who give a flip what others think - Go with a 71 or 72 strip.

  2. Might be best to stick with a 70 strip since it doesn't say Grabber.

  3. OMG - The Grabber strip is sacred.

I know it is my car (or Matt's Car) and we can do with it what we want, but...

It just seems like I am breaking some un-written rule if I put a 71/72 Grabber strip on my car. I would be "advertising" a grabber when everyone knows it is cannot be. When we are done (at least with the paint job), Matt may take his car to a local cruise-in on Fridays and I don't want him to be bothered by some of the die-hard purist types.

So am I being too sensitive?

Im puttin the 70 Grabber stripe on my car. Its not a Grabber but its slowly morphing into one. The Grabber hood will go on next year. I kind of like the stripe without the name anyway. You can always but the Grabber name over the tape later ...

    Who cares, it's your car.
What are the chances of running into one of the 6 Maverick purists?
Most Maverick know-it-alls, will know it's not a Grabber, since it doesn't have a Boss 302
I've had people argue with me.......

Build it how you want to,

like Dave said everybody at the cruise in will be more worried about checking out the boss motor, the toploader 4 speed and the 9 inch in the rear with posi and 4.11 gears. Cause they all know how "stacked" the grabber came from the factory or the one they used to own.

    "6".....there are that many??? LOL!!!!!

If the mavericks were some collector car with some value, then I would keep it stock, BUT these cars are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. My 76 now has small bumpers, a 302 instead of the 6 banger, and an AOD which ford didnt have back then, plus the chevy t-lites....etc.

Mine will also have a Maverick GT stripe on it and it will have the word "Grabber" on it too, so do what you feel.

You know, Matt loved the street beast HW. We really like the 302 Boss strip, but think it would have to be custom paint and not an out of the box decal.

Go to a local sign company, they can cut custom vinyl stripes in what ever shape, size, or color. A buddy of mine cut 70 mustang grabber stripes in white reflective vinyl for my stang. The stripes have held up better than my paint.

The stripes on the Street Beast Hot Wheels, don't look half bad, but the color choice is questionable....

I think you need to decide, this is your car an you project. I have a 75 Comet an I am going to clone it as a Gt. I want to dedicate it to the guy that sold it to me. He needed money really bad. :)

Robin, ya'll saw my yellow non-Grabber at the Christmas breakfast. I did the Grabber style black stripe on the Grabber hood, and the blacked out tail panel. I say style because it's not exactly correct, but more of a tribute. The Grabber was only a styling package anyway, so I see nothing wrong with imitating it. It's not like you were trying to pass off a factory 6 cyl Mustang as an original Boss 429 or a 340 'cuda as a Hemi 'cuda. I did see a 'cuda at a show last year that was striped up like an original Hemi 'cuda, and it had a Hemi, it was a new Hemi, not the old original one. And to keep folks straight [or confuse them, I don't know which], it had the "HEMI" proudly displayed on the stripe, with the word "Tribute" underneath that in script. The purist would know by that it was a clone, the average Joe would just know that the car had a Hemi. I guess what I'm saying is for you and Matt to look at different stripe styles, and then decide what ya'll like best. You might even like a combo of early and late model Grabber stripes. Take some side pics of the car, print them out on paper, and take some colored markers and draw out a stripe ya'll like. That way, ya'll will know what it will look like before you commit to anything.
