Short answer: NO. Can't get into them deep enough where they come togethor, which is where its needed. Could look into having them extrude honed but that would probably cost as much as getting a set of headers.
spectre performance has a nice front sump oil pan, for 109 dollars, the part #5500, you can also get headman headers for 120 on summitt racing.
Which ones do you mean? I've seen 88660, 88650, 88308 and 88300 all mentioned in searches. None of them seem ideal, but since none of those are $120 on Summit I'm guessing you know of another set that can fit?
The last one I put a 351W in was quite a while ago. I am doing one now but haven't set the engine and tried the headers that I got for it yet. BUT.................. If I remember correctly, I used a set of Summit headers for a 302 and the only clearance problem I had was at the fire wall. I had to move it back (with a BFH) about 1/2 inch in one place on the drivers side. They cleared a C6 trans and did not hit the steering box or the linkage. Like I said they were close. At least I didn't have to dimple any tubes. You might try those, they are cheep, 1 5/8 tubes with 3" collector's. One thing though. You will have to run a cable type shifter, no way around that.
Hm, cool! If you could dig up a part number for those headers that would help a lot! I already have the cable shifter. But I also have power steering, think that will be a problem? The drop bracket should take care of it I hope? And I assume there's no way around the shock tower mod with these or any headers, really...
Man, the header question alone is enough to make your skull explode. Hopefully this thread ends up being making it easier for the next guy.
After seeing this pic from madman21, I think the shock tower modification is a go: ...If a manifold is touching the tower then a header's definitely not going to clear. Guess I need to read up on that, see how far back and down I can go without causing trouble.
Here is the link to the headers. I thought they were 1 5/8 but it looks like they are only 1 1/2. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9031/
Looks like you need the filter adapter from a Econoline van to put that oil filter tilted toward the front. No way you'd ever be able to change that filter without jacking up the engine!
That's interesting, thanks. So, no mods on the driver's side other than a PS drop bracket probably, and just a little bit of BFH work on the left at the firewall? Did you put these in from below after the engine was installed, or drop them in attached? You trimmed your shock towers too, I presume?
I'm not 100% sure which ones have the adaptor, but I do know that the 460 in my 87 E 350 has it. They were made two ways, one was an oil cooler with hoses and a cooler that mounted out by the radiator, and the other was simply a 45* adapter. It mounts with a long bolt that goes into the block, and lets you pivot the filter the angle you want.
You can also find the same style oil filter adapters on 5.0 explorers. The only problem with these factory adapters is the stick out from the block almost as far as the filter does. I tried using one of them but it wouldn't work with my headers, it just stuck out to far and I wasn't able to mount the headers. There may be another set of headers you can use that will work tho, I'm running the crites headers on mine
You could also use a Trans Dapt oil filter relocation kit to move the filter (or use dual filters) forward into the air stream and out of the way of the headers. Bruce
