So my car has like a hard shell of something on the inside of the rear fender wells :16suspect anyone know what it could be or how to get it off? It's almost like rhino line but more porous and not as hard.
I cannot for the life of me remember what they called that stuff. Dealers would add it for a minor cost, and it worked well to prevent rust, and worked as a sound deadener, but it was a hassle to get off. What was that stuff called? I think the brand is no longer in use, so a google search for spray on sound deadeners didnt pull up a name that sounded familiar. I remember they used to put a sticker on the car that had that spray added. Yellow sticker with a shield or helmet on it???
Yes, Ziebart. That is the stuff I was thinking about. Apparently, they are still around. Their sticker has changed, but they also offer much more stuff. Here is their old yellow sticker! It ended up being a yellow sticker with a shield AND a helmet! My memory is so good
I bought my 73 Duster used in 74 and it was "Ziebarted" by the previous owned - it seemed to work - I sold the car in 79 and there was no rust anywhere except the driver's door skin that was replaced due to a fender bender and was not re-treated
wasn't Ziebart something the dealerships sprayed under the cars to add to the final price of the cars? The spray from the factory looks like the dark area in the pic...?
Zeibart was always a chain of undercoaters like Midas is to mufflers located in most areas - dealers would take your newly ordered car to Zeibart and pick it back up when it was done - all finished before you took delivery You could see the little yellow plastic plugs in the door jambs that covered the holes that Zeibart drilled to get the material into hidden areas of the chassis
check the link in post #10 of this thread...I haven't used it but I'm not to that point yet. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=72663&highlight=stripping
