I am trying to install a B&M magnum pro grip shifter on my c4 and individually all the parts work fine, together you get crap. I can manualy work the trans linkage by hand and it feels like any other. I even pulled the cable off my truck and it takes about the same pressure to switch gears. The shifter works fine if not connected to the trans. As soon as I connect the cable and try to use it, I have to use both hands and it will only go a gear or two then I have to pull so hard I am worred about hurting something. The trans is a fresh rebuil with 0 miles and the shifter is brand new.I can usually put one in in under an hour but I have been at this for 4 hours. Anyone got any ideas before I sell this turd and hunt down the t5 I sold to build this? this is the shifter

Just a thought- is the cable and the linkage inline? If the cable is having to pull sideways, it might be enough to jam it.

Cables need wide bends - if they are kinked then they bind.

When you pull the shifter is it pushing the cable? Is it hard both directions?

I will try to put up a pic of it later, I have the biggest loops o can with the 5 football and the itty bitty 69.5 trans tunnel. It is nearly impossible in any gear except park to reverse. I am wondering if Just need to run engine to pump some fluid around the trans. It has only run for about a minute and a half in park.

That shouldn't really matter...you didn't get a reverse pattern shifter for a standard pattern valve body by mistake did you? Is it a rear exit shifter cable or front?

:hmmm: If one of those isn't the issue, then I don't have a clue lol.

    Wish I was more help...

Make sure there is not a sharp bend where it goes through the floor also. That is a pretty bad wear spot anyway, I've broken a few there.:)

Front exit cable, no kinks really. I made a 1.5" hole for the cable to go through the floor.

    * Modular quick change gate plate design for use with 2, 3 or 4 speed transmissions (forward or reverse patterns)

make sure you have it set up for the C-4...i had one i had a problem with and it was set for the wrong shift pattern...:Handshake

I will try to look into that, the directions mention setting the pins for a 3 speed and another for ford transmissions because of the difference in stroke from reverse to park. I cant find anything about changing the gates.

    just a thought...

if you are installing this shifter with a Ford
    three or four speed automatic
transmission you must install the Park limiter
blocker pin and the e-clips as also indicated in
    Figure 1
. This limiter limits the shifter travel into
the Park position, so that it does not stretch the
    cable since Ford transmissions
have less travel between Reverse and Park

    than GM transmissions do.

also in figure 3...if you loop the cable as shown, the shifter would have to be mounted on the hump behind the front seats...:yup:

    ...:hmmm:...

Here are some pics of the attempted install.I have tried routing it other ways but no improvement. I have even tried to use a different trans bracket.

Looking at your pictures of where the cable hooks to transmission shift lever where is the piece that clamps to the transmission shift lever.

On my cable it goes over the tail housing so it is not close to any exhaust
