I'd send the company that sold you that stuff a link to this post thread and tell them to get back to you after they have read it. I am OK at fabbing things, but I wouldn't personally want to go through all that re-engineering to make that mess work.
I understand what you are saying, but I would rather take the time to make it work correctly as long as it's not out of the question..... I have found the pic's here and on other sites showing the rack mounts in the position I think the should be, so that's no biggie..... I am going to contact them concerning the control arm length to see if I can get something done about them..... The inner tie rod length is an easy fix so I am not too worried about that.....
Today it was time for progress to be made since none was made yesterday..... This morning I removed the rack mounts, then made and installed a new set in a new location..... Not only did move them to the bottom of the bar, but also moved them 1/4" towards the pass side to get the rack properly centered..... After that I went ahead and started reassembling the carb since I am going to need it to help with checking hood clearance when I fit the motor..... Here are the original rack mounts..... and after they were removed..... Here are the new ones I made welded in place..... and with the rack bolted in place, there will be no clearance problems now plus I am much happier with the geometry now..... Last thing is the carb base reassembley, just need to install the power valve blow out protection and reinstall the pump arms to complete the base then on to the rest of the carb.....
When building a project like yours and mine, I never expect anything to fit perfect. However having to reengineer mounts like that would bother me. The control arms are another story. I wouldn't touch them. They should be able to make that right. I wonder if they sent you Mustang arms?? Great job so far!!
We shall see what they say about the control arms..... The rest is just part of doing this kind of stuff, I work on custom cars for a living and you might be surprised how much stuff has to be modified that is supposed to fit(and we don't get bargain basement parts there either)..... and Thanks..... I hope for your sake it is..... Went to the shop for a while tonight, got the carb recalibrated and reassembled.....
Tonight I got the shortblock broken down and did a quick clean up on the block..... Then put the pan on the block, bolted up the motor mount brackets and bolted the block to the trans..... I also got the block/trans set in on the trans crossmember and proped up with a temporary crossbar in front of the block..... No pic's today cause some dummy forgot his camera.....
Yes, I took it 100% apart..... I even had the throttle shafts out of the base plate, then soaked it for a day or so..... I cleaned up really well.....
So....... I just read this entire thread for the first time..... Man I've missed out lol. Your doing some awesome work and I just want to say thank you for taking the time to stop and document all of the work. Not only is it awesome to see the progress it's also been extremely informative to myself. I'm getting ready to tackle this 72 Maverick and I think I'll be able to reference 90% of the work I'll be doing just from this thread. I know your hearing praises a lot but its very awesome of you to keep this thread alive and full of useful info and pics. God knows if you weren't taking the time to stop and take pics you'd be much further along then what you are now and I just want you to know that I really appreciate it. Keep up the good work.
