I saw a 71 Mach 1 351 Cleveland smoke a fox body equipped with this latest alphabet soup engine from Chevy. It was at Atlanta Dragway up the road from me. I spoke to the Mach 1 owner after his run. He had the old "Australian" heads A little cam A Victor intake & Holley 750 dp. Those engines could be made into beasts. Chevy never had a small block like it. Unfortunatly they haven't built them in nearly fourty years. Ford built by Americans, not bailed out by them.
Holy Cow I'm Frank's Friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get Down!!!!! hell yeah!!!!! Life is good again!!!! and yes they are over done.....Nice Swap Frank.....but Ill stick with my 281 ci mod motor!!!!
Well to be honest guys I fell of the sobriety horse again....but the good news is I got back on it.....I am in the middle of a very messy Divorce. The car is on hold but not to much longer. Once the divorce is settled....it'll be high gear....i put the car in my lil bros name so iwould not have to worry about the judge messing with it.....my wife and most people think I sold it some time ago...... The motor is in short block from right now and it consists of the following Teksid aluminum block ARP Studs and bolts through out. Manley liteweight h beam rods 580 grams Mahle glat top pistons with the Trick FLOW SOHC 38cc heads shoud put me around 13 to 14 to 1 comp ratio running e85 should be all good. Cobra oil pump and pick up//// Lincoln Mark 8 oil pan.....best factory pan I still need to get the Heads and the edelbrock intake and carb etc..... I have the car down to bare metal and the mustang II cross member welded in.....but I am torn in two right now as to rather I should make it a drag car or road race car.....I could do the drag car quicker and cheaper....but not what i want in the long run but I miss the driving the damn hing and being able to cruise with some of you guys!!!!
I believe the Cleveland given the chance would have been the best v8 of it's era...bar none....Great motor for racing no doubt.....not so good for towing...lol
ls1s are cool..for a chevy..any pre ls1 chevy sb are poop compared to the buick small blocks and olds rockets lighter, more torque...buick 300 practicaly has the same stroke as a chevy 350 and just as peppy...a 383 still has less stroke then a buick 350 ha! buick 370(honda 6.300 rods) has lots of stroke and torque so all in all if it isnt an ls1 you're better off with a real vintage non chevy :-D all and all i'm just saying buick small blocks are compareable to chevys with more cubs in stroke and torque and even horsepower...beats chevys in weight ..just like a ford does
I kind of like the old powerplants to stay ford- ford etc. When it comes to these new engines though they are so similar now it really doesnt bother me. I think the days of manufacturer loyalty as far as powerplants is over. Domestic and even import. Take a look at the Toyota V8,Ford,Chrysler whatever. If you de-badge them I bet the average car guy cant tell one from the other. They are very generic looking now as far as I'm concerned. I dont care for an old school sb chevy in a Ford cause its so obvious. These new engines though... who cares. Its just not that obvious anymore. Lots of aluminum and coil on plug. Just about sums it up for me.
:16suspect Hmm DOHC, SOHC, or OHV...... its easy to differentiate the dodge and the chebbys from the fords, the toyotas and the nissans..... when you look at a 2003 4.6l DOHC cobra motor with a carb conversion and then look at a 1964 427 cammer and you realize how similar they look it becomes really easy to differentiate the fords from their domestic counterparts that still are using OHV motors...
Look guys I am a Ford guy for sure. But a 6.0 truck engine with the stock L92 heads and VVT can make 550 at the flywheel with just a cam change. I have seen it over and over. And the stock short blocks cand handle alot of power. I live in Nacogdoches, TX where Mast motorsports is all they do is LS stuff have been in every GM magazine known to man. I have been there at some of there test and was floored at the power these things make with just cam and headers.
If you know your stuff then yes I agree with you. But my Mother could tell the difference between a sb ford and a sb chevy. Those days are gone. Remove the cheesy plastic engine covers and the majority of the newer engines look very similar to the untrained eye. I guess seeing them everyday for me they get to look very generic. More power, yes, more efficient, yes, more durable, yes. More Boring, yes. Just an opinion from a guy who gets stuck working on them everyday. Anyhow my point was why not put a late model off brand in your car?? Its just not as obvious anymore. If I took a 4.7 SOHC Chrysler and dropped it in my Mav with a carb how many guys would walk by at a show and say "hey thats a 4.7"?? Not very many. They'd likely think its a Ford mod motor. Why?? Cause its GENERIC looking.
Cheap around here too. Talk about cheap HP. We priced a used one for a truck at 800 bucks full retail including our parts dept mark up. I would guess we paid around 400 for it. Yet the same wrecker wants 2000 bucks for a late model 5.7 hemi. Must be a supply thing I guess.
