I will be happy to share any pics I have , I have the engine out, but will have it back in sometime in July, will find the pics I have and scan them. The orange in the grabber stripe is just as ford did it, when I was painting the car, grabber stripes were not availalable yet, Danco? graphics in FLA was just starting to do the 70 stripe, but didnt have 71 stuff done yet, I ended up getting a whole side of NOS striping from Perogie Ent, and sent him the stripe to get the colors correct, the black is also the correct 3m reflective. looks cool at night under the lights. I have built, rebuilt, painted and repainted this car since I was 15 years old, Thanks for the compliments. I have seen 5-6 Boss mavericks thru the years racing. there was a brown one in NJ, a green 4spd one in PA, saw a nice one years ago in Ohio, and another one at the ford race in Englishtown 2-3 years ago, wonder where they all are?

Cool car, was that an old prostock from back then, or was it built to look like one?

    Duane,

Welcome to the site................Very nice car and loved the history.
My maverick was built for B/SM in 1979 and has been racing ever since. It originally had a 302 with 351c Heads and 4spd. Ran in the low 10's back in 79/80/81. The car now has a 408 with Roush/Yates heads, 2spd Powerglide and has run a 9.801. I just took the motor and trans out this weekend for refreshen it as it was built in 1999.

did you run it as a B/SM? That was some cooll times, Some pretty famous people ran those cara back on the day, Arlen Fadley, Mike edwards, Ricky Smith. I saw the Super Stock Magazine/Arlen Fadley car at Fords at Carlisle last year, took a Pic amd Had Mike Edwards sign it at the SuperNationals at Englishtown.

    Hey Duane,

No, I bought the car from the 4th owner of the car, but have talked to Greg Nichols who built the car for B/SM. The car is basically exactly the way it was back then except it has a 15:1cr 408 motor with a 2sp Powerglide and Bill Dawson headers..............and 13" slicks.....as the B/SM cars could only run 10.5's. Greg did tell me he used to leave the starting line around 7krpm and go through the traps in 4th over 7.5krpm,
I am putting the graphics back on the car and to my amazement, all of the original sponsers are still around except the Wilson's Ford Parts. Here is a picture of the car at Fremont Drag strip in 1979 or 80. Also is a picture of the tow car about the same time frame.

Little off topic, but you wouldn't happen to have the old appliance wheels off of that torino tow car would you?

Yes, I have the original hood that was actually made by the guy that originally built the car. The hood has some crazing and cracks, but I will have it fix'd. As I said, the car.........with the exception of the motor and trans is exactly the same as it was in B/SM..........including the 100 lbs. of lead in the rear cross member to make the 50/50 weight distribution....no
tech guy would ever think of looking there.................right.
The original hood is sitting on top of the roof in this picture.
