Just got my new msd dist. Dropped it in and tried to fire it up. It started for about 20 seconds and died. tried to start it again and gas is coming out of two big holes on top of the carb. Its leaking a ton of gas. I just rebuilt the carb about 3 months ago and replaced all new gaskets. What could be wrong with this?

Hard to say. Is it a Holley?

Its a motorcraft 2v. Forgot to mention I have no vacuums connected right now. Im not sure were they go atm. The only one connected is the modulator on the transmission to the intake.

Hmm.. I am thinking a float problem. Been a while but I think you can take the top off and check that on those.

Sounds like you may have the distributor off a tooth or so. Roll it up on #1 TDC and check the rotor position. I jumped timing chain wold do that. Is this a high mileage engine or a recent rebuild?

Not saying it's the problem but there should be a bigger one from around the base area to the PCV. You need that one.

Fuel out of the vent means the float isnt doing its job. Needle valve stuck, float sunk. Maybe just be some small debris in the needle valve. You didnt change the fuel pump or pressure did you?

Or do you mean its backfiring and blowing fuel out of the venturis.

Its a brand new rebuild. This is the first time I was able to crank it. I have the timing correct but it could be off by a hair.

Doesn't matter if you are a newb or a pro. If you have a problem after you just did something. Check & recheck what you just did before going off on another tangent.

You've got a major "float is stuck problem" here. Did you set it according to the instructions ? Either it's not set right, or it's installed incorrectly and not functioning properly.
