Its kind of controversial isnt it. Cars junk either way with or without a cage but you dont have a helmet on to stop your noodle hitting the bar on the street. I would think it makes the car more salvageable from a parts stand point. I guess the personal injury thing would be a crap shoot either way.
...and what would the fine for that be? I had a kid run into me on my Harley...he was charged for...failure to yeild right of way...he paid a...$47 fine and court cost...I had $3,600 in damage to my Harley and I had a broke arm and leg...
ITs a criminal charge up here if its a factor in an accident. Kiss your insurance good bye after that charge. The insurance is the killer here. not the fine. Only a fine if you get caught on the phone and pulled over. Too bad the fine is only about 150 bucks. Should be 10x that.
is that for...hand held phones? that would be hard to prove with...phone records. this goes on and on.... here you are required to have insurance, but also have to carry...ununsured moterist insurance...for thoes that hit you and don't have any... bottom line...you were hit from the rear...that makes it automatically... their fault. the big issue here...what thier insurance company thinks your car is worth...not necesserily what your insurance company thinks...you were not at fault. with Hagerity... your agreed value is what you get...
If the cops see you on the phone, they pull you over and give you a ticket, if they see you holding a phone, they pull you over and give you a ticket, you can try to fight it, but if you own a cell phone in your name, good luck. It's all at the discretion of the officer. On the news the other day, some guy got a ticket for eating pizza....We can have hands free phones, like SYNC. Everyone here has to have insurance, and one little thing can make it go through the roof. If you get caught "Street Racing" A.K.A. 50 KPH over the posted limit, kiss your car, and your ability to afford insurance good bye.
sub frame connectors? Very bad news, I am wondering...did the car have sub frame connectors? If so, they might have been a factor in the car not crumpling, further.
same here and people don't pay it and still drive...it's just a law...untill they start...hanging people ..that drive without it...it will just be a law... ...the people they run into are the ones that loose...
Wonder if those foam pads Ive seen around certain areas of the cage would of helped form the head bang.Or did you have them.
That's a crazy crash. Very sorry to hear about the car, glad that everyone made it out with minor injuries...Especially the girl that hit you, if it was me there's a very good chance she would've suffered some post-crash injuries. About the switch...I've seen them on multiple cars but never had any clue what it was for. So i'm guessing it's just a switch to start/stop flow of gas in/out of the fuel cell? Good luck with insurance and getting what you deserve to get out of them. Good luck with the new build, We all love to see a lot of pictures and am sure that you will do great job keeping us up to date. You had a big loss here but will end up with something even better i'm sure.
It's for the battery. The NHRA requires that any vehicle with a relocated battery must have a master disconnect switch installed on the exterior of the vehicle. SCCA rules are reportedly similar.
i only have to deal with one insurance company. mine. i have full comprehensive coverage. my insurance company will go after hers.
update. the final appraisal amount came in at $20,000.00. i have sever whiplash and see a chiropractor 1 to 2 times a week. i had to get a lawyer because her insurance tried to offer me $200 for the bump on my head. now we are negotiating for the loss of income due to my car not being exposed at events as an advertising tool. mercury insurance sucks. i have found out that they are one of the worse company's to try to get a fair settlement out of. thank goodness my lawyer is really good. hes a car guy. he has a 1000 hp turbo fox body mustang that is street/road race car. heres the pics that mo originally posted sense they have disappeared. here is the 2011 jeta that killed my 72 maverick grabber, ya im bitter. ive purchaced a 71 comet to start over with. see it here http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=83384
Being a late arrival to this forum, I just now had a chance to read this thread. Man, that is ugly. Obviously I agree with everything that has already been said, but I still have 1 question: how did the front rim get bent? Eventually we will all have laws requiring H.A.N.S. devices to drive on the public roads. Did I really say that???? Please ignor the previous statement. I'll be watching your next build with interest since I'll be doing something rather simular. The '72 Comet is for my Grandson, maybe he will get a H.A.N.S. right along with the cage and helmet. And a hands free phone. Blessings upon you and Mo that you came out of it with only slight injuries. Sopp
