got this 73 mercury comet gt a few months ago from a member here on craigslist for a $1000, it turned and started, but would die out as soon as you put it in gear.

i was gonna rebuild this motor and start from there, i found parts on craigslist for a set of ported heads, but the guy meantioned he had a complete rollor motor thats been rebuilt that just needed the externals put together. he had all the parts set up for a carb conversion minus the distributor, and flexplate. it was perfect, got it for $600 and saved me a lot of money. everyone on here gave me LOTS of info on putting it all together. thanks everyone

while i was scrubbing the **** out of this, i was thinking about a 4 spd swap, but i wanted to drive this sucker soon. so i just took the C4 and torque converter to get rebuilt and upgraded to a stage 2 shift kit. cost me $700 w/ a 2 yr warrenty. kind of pricey.

i was trying to find the perfect color for this car. i had to buy parts here and there cause the comet hood was all bent up. i couldnt find a replacement and so i came across this hood for $60 locally. so i just went from there.

i didnt want spend a lot of money, i did the body work myself and i was going to take it to a macco have them spray it, but i found some stuff on youtube and backyard painting.

came across the $50 paint job

i thought it looked pretty badass. i researched more and found that people were getting better results w/ a HVLP Turbine sprayer

i just mixed rustoleum and acetone, sprayed on 3 coats 12 hrs between and BOOM. sprayed on fine, leveled out nicely. looks like a single stage paint job. ive read that this job lasts a few years.

its been 3 weeks and i still havent color sanded and buffed yet. you dont see any bad orange peel, it flattend out nicely that i think im just going to use 1500 grit then polish.

the only think i need to do now is, chop up my bumper, fix the passenger seat track, upgrade the seatbelts, and throw in some bass and rock out to PANTERA and METALLICA. some skidrow works, too.

    THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP.

Nice looking Comet. Don't know where you live, but I have 5 Comet hoods. All rust free & in good shape. I also have the chrome hood lip trim in good shape. I just polished them up. Nice job...
