Anyone using the self-programming EFI "carburetors"?

are idle air bleeds the jets on the top of the carb? I've always been curious to know what they do.

    YUP, That's thems.

That carb looks a bit like mine.

I think, but am not sure, that those are interchangeable with the interior jets. If so, I have the full set to mess with, but don't know the theory behind messing with them, so I don't.

I would assume smaller jets would lean things out, but would it affect EVERYTHING else after it, making a mess of of my dyno tuning time?

The idle air bleeds are the two towards the outside of the carb, the two near the center are the high speed air bleeds. They are not the same as the main fuel jets. The idle air bleeds introduce air into the idle feed well, mix with and emulsify the fuel. Larger bleeds provide more air and lean out the idle mixture. The high speed bleeds give more air to to the main well and, in turn, the boosters. The idle air bleeds are often twice as large as the high speed bleeds. Just write down what bleeds, jets, etc., you have then you can always return it back to where you started if you make changes. Write down every change and what effect it had.

Hmmm, you buy a fully adjustable carb and then don't want to mess with it...

A dyno tune provides a good starting point but it can't duplicate the way you drive and every road or track condition.

I have one that I've been sitting on for over a year now. Hopefully I'll finish installing it sometime before the end of the year.

Don't want to. It is hovering around 102 degrees here everyday, and lotsa humidity.

Have driven the car ONCE since February.

Also, I don't have the knowledge to mess with those, and don't have access to a dyno or anything else to help me determine what, if anything, the changes are doing for me. Except seat of pants, which isn't reliable enough to use on carb tuning.

AND, if the bleeds are not the same part #s as the internal jets, then I don't have a set to mess with. I never took a jet and compared to a bleed, so I was just assuming they were the same size and thread.

LOL, it's not like you're busy mowing the lawn! For my tune ups I use a vaccum gauge, A/F ratio gauge with data logging, and a G-Tech meter. Between these three tools I can pretty much tell what the engine wants at any driving condition.

I have an A/F meter, but took it off after the dyno run. And vacuum gauge. But none of that other high-tech stuff.

Grab the September issue of "Modified Mustangs & Fords" it has a good section on Holley carb tuning.

Affordable accelerometer. I've got an older version, pretty accurate on 60ft times; 1/8 mile; 1/4 mile; speeds; & lateral g's...
