The driver's side door glass in my '72 2-door Mav does not sit straight in the channels. There's about a 1/32" gap on the top back edge of the window when its closed producing a lot of wind noise and even a draft. The door glass was out for painting and channels were replaced. I didn't notice any adjustment for alignment. Anyone know how to get the glass to fit better in the channels?
Here are the instructions from the linked doc: which works for aligning the glass runs. Tried that several times with no change in the gap. Then I noticed that the bolt holes for mounting the regulator to the inner door panel are SLOTTED. If the mounting bolts are loosened they will move up and down in the the slots when up or down pressure is applied to the crank. Moved the bolts to the tops of the slots, tightened the bolts and the gap went away.
older thread, but found it in a search .... Wanted to say THANKS! for posting. It helps a lot in figuring out how to get my door back together .... took it apart months ago and am a little fuzzy on some details now. Question ... did the channel that the glass attaches to originally come with some padding at the points where the plastic fasteners go, and maybe one in the midpoint too? Something to prevent the glass from rattling against the metal channel? It looks like there might have been something there that decomposed. It also seems that I made pads for it, a long time ago, out of some generic gasket material. Probably looked at it 15 years ago, just like now, thinking something should be there. They are pretty well gone too now. The diagram isn't very clear on this. It looks like something square is there around the slot.
Thanks Jeff, I must have found the crumbling remains 15 years ago when I made my current crumbling remains.
Do you know where to get those plastic fasteners? or if you guys know of a suitable replacement? Jason
Curious, were you able to get yours fixed? We're having the exact same issue with my son's 72' and for the life of me, I just can't figure out what we're missing. We painted his car and replaced the weatherstripping but we never fully removed the glass or regulator from the door. We've tried the glass alignment procedure as outlined in the manual with no luck. Is it possible that we have a problem with our regulator (bent or something)? Not knowing what is is supposed to look like new, how would I even know? Not only do we have a gap at the rear part of the glass, it is also extremely difficult to to roll-up. It almost looks like it "pops" out of the channel somewhat when it's about 3/4 of the way up.
Thomas >> You've done it again !! Thanks for the info. I printed it out also for any future reference. Cometized (Chip)
Thanks Chip, but we tried following these instructions (at least half a dozen times by now) and it still hasn't fixed our issue. Do you think we've got something wrong with our window regulator or are we missing something?
