I get friends sending me messages on Facebook "when are you going to put more pictures in your Maverick album?" I tell them as soon as you come help me so I can get something done
Small Tunnel to Large Tunnel Project Since the subframe connectors, for the most part, just need buttoning up now, I moved on to the next project. Changing the small 69.5 - 70 transmission tunnel to a later model larger one. With the small tunnel, my Hurst V-Gate shifter stuck right out of the side of the 69.5 tunnel and the hole was so large that the boot no longer would cover the hole. Rick Brooks, from Texas sold me the larger tunnel pieces from a 71-72 Maverick parts car and today the cutting began. The front piece with all of the paint removed fits to the firewall in the exact same place but the piece that is still red needs a little tweeking to get it to blend into the rest of the 69.5 tunnel but it shouldn't be a big problem. My driveshaft front u-joint also originally hit the top of the small tunnel but the larger tunnel is higher at that point so all problems should be solved. The hole I cut today was just to see where everything laid and what else I needed to cut later
I'm trying to get it all to fit nice and snug before I go cutting the rest of the small tunnel out from under it. I hate when I cut something 6 times and it's still to short
Wow, that is good work, Bob. I now see why you needed the extra length. Glad I could help with the parts. Rick
Thanks Rick - I couldn't do it without your help You can now see that "missing" piece is actually the part that blends the larger front tunnel back to the 69.5 tunnel left to the rear. Without it, it would have been a bear to deal with.
Thanks Everett - Once I cut the rest of the 2 clearence slots in the floor for the top links, they get boxed in like on Terri Brigham's pink Maverick - when Terri was having her car built, she wasn't sure she could retain her back seat - I suggested to her to have her builder strip off the seat cover and cut the bottom front frame piece, then make another piece to go up and over the boxed in channels - they did it and it worked - she said that she sat in the seat and unless you bounced on it, you couldn't feel the boxed in channels - that's the direction that I am heading in also
Wish you would come to Texas and help me with my floor pans and quarters. I may be in New Jersey & PA if my nephew needs help with Hurr Irene claims. If I do, I'll be sure to hook up with you. Rick
