Sorry I haven't posted in a while guys, a month or 2 back we sold our Bumpside F-100, and the other day we picked up this...

Picked it up for $3,000. 1978 F-150 Custom Explorer 4x4. Stock 2 bbl 400M and C6. It has 76,000 miles on the odometer and the guy said the previous owner had the motor rebuild and he had the trans rebuilt. The motor isn't original because the VIN said it had a 300 6 originally. The body is pretty solid with a little surface rust here and there but it's not rotted out. It needs a carpet (Well, I was looking at a vinyl floor), a radio and some steering work. As soon as we got it home the starter took a crap, luckily we had another one lying around. Now we're tackling the steering issues, luckily we got the parts pretty cheap. Eventually I'd like to get some headers, a Performer 400 intake, 4bbl, and some dual exhaust set up on it. It needs a hitch welded on it before I can pull the Maverick with it too, but I need to get the Mav running first before worrying about that haha. What do you guys think?

Edit : Here's a little video I took of her. (yeah, she has some exhaust leaks lol)

Nice truck. The 4bbl swap will make a big difference. I dont see why ford woud put a 2 bbl on all these old trucks. my 70 F-100 with a 390 is a whole different anaimal then any of my dads trucks he has had with the 390 2 barrel. I'm sure your 400 will love a 4bbl.

Got the power steering issue fixed, runs great now, had to borrow 2bbl from my cousin and re-wired it in the proper firing order lol (when we got it only 1 cyl matched up), If you floor it from just an idle it'll blow the back tires off..., got some nice Holley valve covers on it too...

Ryan, are you sure they were 390's with 2 barrels. They were probably 360's for they came with 2 barrels as the 390's had 4 barrels. I have had a lot of both over the years and still do have some and the only 390 I have had that has a 2 barrel on it is there because someone took the 4 off and with an adapter plate, installed the 2. What a waste of time that was. :hmmm:

Nice looking truck. that body is third on my list of favorite Ford trucks.

Lol, thanks, I've owned all 3 types of those trucks, unfortunatley the 55' truck we had had a SBC in it, but we only bought that truck because it was cheap and didn't put a SBF in it because the chebby motor didn't give us a problem. Just sold our 72' bumpside with a 360/C6 a few months ago and just bought this one. Here's how she runs now, and she runs even better and a little quieter now that we've hooked up a vaccum line on the carb since this video...

Truck now has a Performer 400 and a Holley 650 marine 4 bbl, runs tons better, and picked up a decent amount of power too, only thing is one of the tires on the back let go on the way to school, so we took a set of 31x10.5's we had lying around and put them on the front and put the 32x11.5's that were on the front on the back, we need to get 2 new 32's for the front now...

I LOVE it!! Those 400M's are on the same fuel consumption playing field as the 360. Let the gas suckin' begin! :thumbs2:

How's the old brown pro-streeter coming along?
